Oh I'll need to subsection this feedback:
- AI : it was extreamly simple, too simple even, as I understand this was suposed to be a soulslike and these usually have a preaty expansive ai tree, generaly in this game I felt a lack of moments where the enemy is not rushing straight at you and that with the lack of enemy attack anticipation ment that dodging was more a gimick than an actuall combat strategy.
- Player: The lack of any sort of stamina or other system that would discourage you from just spamming left click ment that player expression was pretty minimal.
- Camera: "Is the camera shifting up?" was the first thing I asked myself when I boot up this game, honestly an orbiting 3d person camera is not great in very claustrofobic locations which made the first section the worst impression that could probably be given, also making camera be attached to the players back made the whole expirience even more disorienting honestly I would just leave it to be always centerd on one point.
- Reseting: As I understand it all the enemies are placed manually into the scene, which means they are not reset on death and nither is healing meaning that you will allow the player to just run at the boss with no health over and over again.
- Tutorial: I didn't find any place mentioning controls for this game, so either do a text tutorial, an interactive one or at least put controls in the discription.
Alright I just realized how much ratings I have left so I'll leave you with the last thing... next time either put up invisble walls or a killbox at the bottom as someone will find a way to fall into oblivion:
Really cute game :). I really had fun. Even though , a some cooldown for the player attack wouldn't have hurt, the camera control was a bit too scuffed and if the players deals damage to fast, the enemy should then push him away. But still a fun experience.
Hope that you'll also try mine https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-12/rate/2973690
Very Cool!
Wow, I really love this type of Souls-like game! It’s a very ambitious project! The character reminds me of Tunic =) (an excellent video game). The combat feels great, being able to strike in different directions with the mouse works really well, and the roll mechanic is great too! I killed the Bull boss from a high place and didn't take any damage, hehehe. The level design is excellent; I felt a strong urge to explore the entire dungeon because it has great verticality. I’ll follow you on Itch to see how your game evolves in the future! Congratulations on the project!
Impressive. I was disappointed at the lack of controller support however (besides basic movement)
Super impressive for a game jam! Thought for sure the dungeon boss was the end until I found the broken wall. But this game has multiple zones with a bunch of encounters and upgrades. Great job getting all that in there!
A lot of good stuff in there, but there are a few things that could use a bit of polish. These are the two that stood out to me the most
Really liked the placements of enemies and places of interest. Being able to see the dungeon boss behind the bars, or the other greater demon on top of the tower gave me a goal to move towards and look forward too. And the enemies hidden around corners that swing at you the moment you enter a room or pass a barrel. Also, being able to climb up to a high place and see places of interest to go explore, whether that's interesting buildings or the distant glow of a new checkpoint. And then when I did go explore, I was rewarded with a cool upgrade or a heal and such.
Again, really impressive entry. Great job!
Thank you so much for awesome review! I am so happy when someone enjoys playing my game!
This is crazy impressive. Completely this amount of work in a week is an amazing effort. The game is really fun and the combat flows well for a short souls-like. I like how the level kept progressing. Great job! This was really fun!
Hi! Thank you so much 🙏 🙏 🙏 I am making games for jams for couple of years now, and I really think best way to learn is to finish game for jam in time. It's always something unique that you end up learning, and just by doing that over and over again it super fun and awesome way of improving yourself!
For a week this is an impressive 3D game! The gameplay is genuinely fun, and there's an impressive amount of content!
Thanks man! It means a lot!
This Game was really fun to Play, and it has so much content, which is pretty impressive considering the Time Limit.
The Loading Time at the Start was pretty long and at the End it was quite Laggy but Overall fantastic job!
Hey, thanks! So glad you had fun! And yes, I end up with pretty large game that I manage to get under 200 MB, so that is why load time is pretty long.
Fun game! Controls could be fine tuned to make it a bit more enjoyable but hey, fighting monsters as a squirrel? Sign me up!
Hahaha 😂
Thanks man!
Hee-ho. Cool game, nice art and animations. I have small camera issue (it is very fast)
I will try to be honest here, first of all HOW DID YOU DO THAT IN A WEEK!? Now that is out of the way, game is fun, even though animation glitches and meshes having seams and openings for all its flaws the core is already nicely flushed out. I got stuck in the dungeon for a while lol, but then I finally broke the wall and came out, The world is completely explorable however I wanted, the flying power up just encouraged it. Bosses AI was bad though, he would just stand there and I could push them over ledges to get them stuck in falling animations *Glitch*. At the end I fell in a pit while I was going for some power up and got stuck there cuz no stairs lmao. Really fun experience.
Hey, thanks! I make this in 4 days 🙂
But! I have worked for more than year on another souls like that I published on Steam, so it was not that hard when you know what and how you want to do. Also using assets speed up process a lot. So glad you had good time with game, it means a world to me!
This game is so fun. I had to give it all the stars I could!
Thank you so much! So glad you like it!
I said hi to a naked man and he shook my hand, then I jumped off a ledge and found out there was falling damage and died lol. Super impressive for only a week! Great job!
Hahaha 🤣
That was not supposed to be seen
Saw this thumbnail and reminded me of the squirrel character from my own gamejam, except yours is bigger and sexier!
Cool game, looks very big, the performance tanked on my laptop though, is there a download version.
So sorry for issue with performance. I could send you download version, as soon as I get home, I went in Barcelona for my first Unite event 🙂
The size of the map and amount of content is impressive for a jam, however the polish is quite lacking. it was kind of fun when I realized I could cast the fire spell at infinite fire rate, but it also rendered all combat moot from that point. I think this could've been more fun if more time was spent focusing on polishing a much smaller area, such as the starter dungeon. Rather than creating such a large map with different characters, assets, and abilities.
Hey! Thank you so much for detailed review! I agree with you. Problem with game jams is that I always bite more than I can chew
I loved the design of the dogo!Amazing what you manage to create in a week :)
Dark souls at home.
the character was pretty funny and after i got the sword in the begginning the fighting system was very fun
Hey!
This one is a bit hard to review. I don't see how it fits within the jam's theme. Other than that, it's a souls-like that needs a lot of polishing. There are animation bugs (you can jump a LOT if you jump mid-swing for example), logic bugs (dungeon keeper doesn't attack), and visual bugs (meshes appear inside of each other, it gives it a glitchy vibe)
But, making a souls-like is no easy feat. So kudos for trying!
