I wish there was more to the story but well done! The theme was integrated well, the soundtracks were also very good. Good job!

Story was good and graphics looked great, well done!

It's a very good fit for the theme, I was missing a couple of quality of life features, such as speeding up the typewriter speed on the text and finishing the current text when clicking. It was a bit hard to get too invested in the story and the ending felt very abrupt. I was actually mid jump when the screen froze me and the credits began to scroll across the screen, which was unintentionally hilarious.

Thanks for the feed back will look into that !!!

The game is small, enjoyable and has a story. I agree with the suggestions for improving the game below. I would like to add a small suggestion to randomly change the pitch of the sound of the continue button, which is pressed frequently and the same sound gets boring. Good job!

Developer

I really like this idea thanks!!

An atmospheric story-telling game.  It was nice although it felt that there was a plan for the "storm part", since there is a jumping mechanic present.

Suggestion:
- All of what MrJackphil mentioned.
- Maybe an alternative sound for Continue button?
     - And, possibly conversation sounds? (Dont Starve pipe sounds or Animal Crossing chatter).  Although it can be an impossible thing to do in a short amount of time

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feed back was planning on changing the conversation to a more cursive looking text so that the writing sounds fit better

I don't usually play these types of this so this was a new experience for me. I loved the visuals and the music really shapes up the atmosphere. The story was especially good. You guys have a talented writer. One thing I would say is that my finger was getting a tired from all that click so maybe having an option where the text appears by itself would be cool. Great submission :D

I enjoyed the game, the story . Atmosphere was nicely presented. The feeling of calm before the violence is greatly shown. Visually game is looking appealing and music is helps to set the tone.

Some feedback from me:
- didn't understand why platforming mechanic was presented, I feel what it would be nicely played as a VN
- it's hard to tell when you have a collision wall and where you can walk through... the wall you need to jump at first... I thought there was a bug and I can't walk further... for whatever reason I wasn't able to jump on it right away
- pixel size inconsistency in art... it wasn't that bad as it happens sometimes but it's noticable by some
- the text revealing can be faster or allowing player to reveal it immediatly would be great. Animation makes dialogs a little bit tedious to watch.
- I had a feeling what there were some filler texts which had no impact on the dialogue meaning. Those could be excluded without harming the experiece and even improve it by focusing player on some concrete phrases and ideas.

I've enjoyed the game and this large feedback block was made because I want ideas and games like this to improve upon themselves  :)

Thanks for the feed back I added the platforming mechanic is present because I thought it would be a cool to walk around in the world that you are talking about with the citizens. That building and jump will possibly be fixed on first patch after the jam I now see how that is very hard to tell its a place to jump. also the pixel size is what comes from using free assets and I probably could have done a better job at scaling them. Finally text revealing will also be fixed first patch to help with reading speed. Thanks again for the feed back!!!

Some great writing. I think the text could have been sped up significantly or a complete current dialogue feature could have been added, but a nice experience overall.

Thanks for sharing your game with my stream! Here's the VOD of your game: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2256101019?t=00h50m16s

Man, was that a moving bit. You definitely feel the impending feeling of violence and bloodshed coming up just by walking around and conversing with the locals. I really like how you present various fantasy archetypes and their supposed array of feelings they have before an actual war starts. It also feels grounded and impactful with both exposition, story, and emotion intertwined together when conversing with the NPCs until the end, where the outcome of the war is left ambiguous with only the dreary cries of battle to be left with. The choice of audio was stellar for this game, really feeling the weight of mournful dread whilst also seeing a slimmer of hope that they can make out of this alive.

The only two things I found off was the scaling of the sprites and the lack of clarity of the environment in terms of platforming. Using pixel art, the NPCs' sprites are pretty obvious that they were scaled, leading to mismatching pixel sizes, especially the prince who was shrunk in order to look smaller than the King. Outside of the art style, the environment often doesn't communicate well what's a wall, what's a platform, and what's foreground. The most prominent example is the first building the player needs to jump over to meet the second NPC. It's not a full building segment that blocks you but instead a balcony with many boxes underneath, which are the same boxes used for the foreground with no color changes. This led to many struggling attempts of platforming when the edges of the platforms are hard to identify.

Thanks for this feedback will look for a way to make that jump seem more prevalent

That was cool! The writing was very good and the game was beautiful. I wish I could click to auto-fill out the textbox, but as a story game this plays well. Nice work everyone!

For the Kingdom! Maybe conversation between characters could've been shorter but other than that. Great Work and Good Luck!

Submitted(+1)

Cool art and visual and feel is really good! I would rather prefer the dialogue to be in a bigger dialogue box so you didnt have to spam continue to get more text shown!

Hee-ho. Very cool art. Super beautiful game

Submitted(+1)

Nice little story!! Maybe you could add a bit more juice to the conversations, like making the player able to take his own decisions and as a result there could be different endings or something. But good job anyway!! :)

W0W nice one! I enjoyed playing

Good job, wonderful pixel art in every part!

Nice work! The music and art are appealing, and there is a lot of potential. I do wish that either the text were faster, or there was an option to auto-fill the dialogue box; because of this, any unnecessary words or lines tend to stick out, making the core mechanic somewhat frustrating. Although I'm far from an expert, if I may so bold (as I do see a lot of potential), I would recommend Strunk and White's "The Elements of Style."

Developer

yeah text completion update coming as soon as rating period is over!! and is that last thing you where talking about a video?

Submitted(+1)

It's a book :D A very short one, but packed with writing juice. Not for fixing (as your writing is much better than my own, haha), but for elevating, since the writing is your game's core gameplay. ^-^

Developer(+1)

Ill look into is since I had a friend do the writing so I can possibly do my own writing next time!!
