I liked it! Very innovative use of physics.
I wish there was a way for the player to recover if they lost all their lumbermills as the moment you lose all wood production, the game just stalls - you cannot get wood to build another lumbermill, so you have no choice but to wait for the waves to destroy you, and depending on how high you built, you spend more waves waiting for this to happen than the actual waves building. If there was a way to recover, such as a passive +1 Wood per wave if you have no lumbermills, that would add more tension to the game as you struggle to quickly rebuild back up, rather than just simply be forced to give up and watch a really slow death.
Another thing the game can benefit from is being able to see the height of the next wave so I can strategize in advance. That way, I can see how high my walls need to be and evaluate if I need another wall. In one of the waves I was relatively surprised when the wave got super high, and I felt my lumbermills were unfairly destroyed as I lost not due to having insufficient steel, but not having the information relayed to me to prepare for it.
Other than that, here are the various things I liked about the game:
Overall brilliant game with a unique concept that I had to give nothing less than 4 stars in every category. I ended the game with a floating house that managed to survive several waves xD
Thanks a lot for such detailed feedback!
Well, it was intended that trees that randomly spawn on the island will give you passive wood income, but they don't spawn once all the island is underwater, so I guess I should've taken this into account :D
Indicator of the next wave height is something I've been thinking of, but it remained in the backlog due to lack of my time :/
Ahh I see, understandable! Still, it is one of the most innovative games I have tried! Good job on it!
Cool game love it, love the artstyle and the graphics, relaxing and interesting!
Great game. The concept works well. The tutorial screen is a bit intimidating. Some gravity system would be welcomed, it's weird to see house (or the entire island if you destroy the bottom) floating in the air. I found the UI resources cost/gain too small.
I like the water metaballs look.
Overall I had a good time playing your game. Congratulation.
Phenomenal job! The gameplay is fun and engaging, and the level of creativity is just stunning. You’ve delivered something that feels both fresh and exciting.
the gameplay loop is super fun, i loved the graphics and animations too! everythings so mesmerizing to watch bahaha. the logo art is also super cute, i love the way you've turned the letters into different structures or materials :] i think a bit of balancing should be done, its a bit tricky to get resources such as metal (though i think a few other comments have mentioned that already so i won't drag that on for too long). great game nonetheless!
Fun idea and enjoyed playing it! When everything drops down at the end of the storm it reminded of a certain classic game ;)
Such a great idea, and it fits the theme so well. The graphics are great (especially loved the way houses build on top of each other) and you even managed to do Worms-like water simulation. Great concept, and incredibly well made. Good work!
Very fun and strategic gameplay! I liked the art a lot too. Crazy to see what seems like a drop of water destroy an entire house haha. Good job!
Loved the concept! The gameplay loop is quite fun actually. Found it a little challenging to constantly gather all the resources, I just wanted to build a massive wall aha. The wave graphics are amazing as well. Congrats!
Interesting concept!
Nice game! I really liked the strategy in resource management and building placement.
This is a really good game overall, and amazing for a jam entry. Kudos!
Thanks a lot!
Not being able to build on top of the mines is intentional, but now I find it weird myself.
I agree that waves are too punishing for the new players and the building system might need a rework.
As for the sprites not updating after building below, I got out of time to fix it, so here we are :D
We also considered destroying or dropping down existing buildings when the tile below got destroyed, but I felt that it would raise the difficulty too much for the jam game, and I had not enough time to change this behaviour at that moment :/
Well this is still great for a jam game. There's always room to improve later. I'd definitely be happy to check the game out or playtest future versions. Cheers!
Good game! I agree with some other comments saying that it needs some balance, but it is a good start!
Really well done, congrats on the submission!
For context I played it for maybe 15-30 minutes, here's my feedbacks!
1. The ressources (metal)
I feel like metal/stone is very difficult to obtain once you don't have access to the base island (after few storms). It's mostly due to the fact that you can't stack other structures above the mines that makes it tricky. Basically it makes it so you can't go upward after you placed one *(I simply never found a way :P ). Maybe making it stackable could be done, but then it depends on your design too, this is talking from a player perspective ^^
2. The waves/Structures
I love the wave system, the visuals for them is beautiful and the system is easy to understand. The structures and bricks only have 1 "hp" from my understanding making it very damageable at each storm, you often don't have enough to rebuild them all making a trickier progression. Maybe having 1 more hp as "warning" to make it clear to the player that the structure will fall in the next storm if no protection is given. The wall have that system and I think it's very cool, maybe it could use the same?
Overall, love the execution of the theme with the gameplay! Good job!!
I agree with you!
I'm glad you liked it!
I agree with you about the resources, it might need rebalancing. As for the mines, it was intended that you destroy your mine once it gets in the way or falls underwater and rebuild it somewhere higher, but now I find it a bit weird.
I feel that the whole building system needs a rework, because right now waves are too punishing for the new players, who don't know what to expect from the waves, while building up to the top right corner makes the game too easy.
Thanks for such great feedback!
Pretty good. I`d prefer a bigger island though.
It's impressive how well the graphics were made considering the short time period. I didn't get very far, but the general gameplay and the way it was accomplished is great.
Awesome, really enjoyed this game. Actually built a few cool constructs with mines on top of each other by breaking the blocks beaneth them afterwards. The quicky game mechanics left room for cool optimisation :D I really enjoy. Thank you! Well made!
That's a really cool idea, guys. It's got a great visual and the wave physics are awesome. I love it! Good luck with it!<3
I really loved the look and feel of this game, nice job. I somewhat felt like I was cheating with those floating houses tho lol
Pretty fun game about building stuff to survive storms!
Game idea is cool, the gameplay is fun. Good Luck!
