A really well and polished game :), Glad that the monkeys didn't actually fall from the sky , nor grow wings.

Hope that you'll also rate mine https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-12/rate/2973690

Incredible graphics and animations. The game was challenging, and I couldn’t complete it. After reading other comments, I realized there was a jump mechanic by pressing W, which was not intuitive—I didn’t even figure it out. The sounds and music were okay; they did their job. The shield throw mechanic was interesting, but the shield bash mechanic was frustrating. The delay between shield bashes was too long. Picking up items with the spacebar was also unintuitive, as space is typically reserved for jumping. So, the gameplay mechanics were lacking.

Also, where is this panicked woman running to, forcing the player to keep up with her? Could it have been done differently, like having the woman follow us instead? Unfortunately, the frustrating gameplay mechanics caused me to give up after dying five or six times.

Fun I like the mechanics of the game.

How in the world did you all make an escort mission one of the most polished games in the whole jam? Giving the player decisions on how to defend the NPC was interesting and challenging, the overall mechanic of the weapon was satisfying. The only thing that felt a little off was the melee attack of the parry, it felt more responsive just tossing the weapon down point blank and retrieving it than meleeing.

Also the little things, like using an obstacle to show the player how to attack, kamikazing a monkey to show how lightning works, and the graphics... absolutely beautiful.

Really amazing work, the only thing I didn't like is the cliffhanger... I want to play more and see what happens next!

wow! this comment gave me butterflies lol. thank you so so much for the kind words and for the feedback. we worked really hard for the jam!

we are planning on advancing this project further, and also remake the melee attack as a lot of people thought it was awkward.

thank you again and glad you liked our game!

This game is so cool, really reminds me of Lost. The mechanics are all great, the environments are awesome and I really like the art. Amazing work!

Real nice art work. Game is fun with a unique take on the theme.

Man this game oozed style. As someone who just rewatched Lost, this is relevant to my interests... The animations are so good, especially that intro scene. Fantastic. I really liked the whole pick up and throw mechanic, especially once I realized you could string a bunch of hits together and then jump up and catch it. That was my favourite part.

Though I'm gonna have to try again later. I got to the stormy part, but died 6 or 7 times. I'll save this one for my flight... or is that a bad idea? :S

Amazing animation and game mechanics!

Pros:
Great cutscene, environment, character and story.
Throwing the shield and killing monkeys is responsive and satisfying.

Constructive criticism:
The close-range attack/deflect mechanic felt unpolished and unresponsive
Jumping using 'W' and picking up the shield using 'SPACE' should have been either switched or 'E' for the shield. I'm pretty sure 90% of gamers are used to jumping with 'SPACE'.
The choice to make the stairs at the end jumpable instead of just walkable was kind of weird haha.

Overall an amazing submission, good job! Or should I say Avoda Tova?

Cheers

hi! thanks for the amazing feedback. initially the controls were as you said- E for pickup and jump with space. for some reason we switched them at the last moment ;( , about the temple stairs ,I completely agree! but it was simpler for us making it jumpable, at this point we were really running out of time and we wanted to improve more crucial things

as to the shield close range mechanic, do you mind telling us more about what you felt needs improvement? we would like to potentially remake the mechanic in the future.

toda raba!!!

Happy my hunch came true and we're from the same place :)
So compared to the shield throwing which had an impact when hitting enemies etc, the close-range attack doesn't seem to create the feel of impact. Sort of like only playing the animation and it's unclear whether the hit was registered at all.
Ways I think could improve it:
1. Hit-Stop
2. Player-slow down when swinging
3. A particle effect when the hit registers

Keep in mind that I'm nitpicking, the game is genuinely amazing!

Great concept and game! i had a blast, i was hoping for a boss battle in the end but a cliffhanger is also cool ;) very satisfying to hit m,opre monkeys in a trow :D

Developer

Haha, thanks! We wanted to add a giant monkey as a boss fight but had no time, so we left him as sort of a mysterious figure in the beginning and end, ofcourse there will be a boss fight in a possible future steam release! ;)

Really enjoyed the flash game beat em up feel of this game. Nice controls and movement, I could feel like there were some really cool combos I could pull off. Maybe you could push that in the future?

The graphics are so good man. Amazing game

Good game. The graphics go so hard. Has anyone found a good ending?

Developer(+1)

The good ending is the monkeys we fought along the way

Submitted

Fun and simple. I loved the sounds and the music. The art and atmosphere were also great.

Submitted

nice monke game, you guys have some sort of grudge against monkeys? LOL
The art is insanely impressive here, it's like a whole story told with art. Great game.

Submitted

Great way to start a game it sets up the premise of the story very well. You did a great job on the art. The monkeys that come from behind are very puneshing. if you throw your shield you have a potentially  long run backwards while the lady runs forwards. That felt a bit hard to manage at times. I also constantly mixed up the throw an melee buttons. But that might be a me problem haha

A fun game!

Thought the graphics were good and  the gameplay had a good feel to it which made it enjoyable. To improve the audio could be lowered as it was loud and either having the stranger follow the player or giving the player more shield could help improve the flow of the game.

Really great game, the visuals were amazing and the gameplay was pretty fun, great job!
