A slightly short game, but if you did it alone in 24 hours the game is already insane. Pretty fun to play, the controls feel gameboyish (not too easy nor too tricky), nice graphics and fun story...

I actually want more (゜▽゜)

This is a case where I wished the GameBoy hardware wasn't so restrictive. I want to break more things!!!!

Nice concept, lovely character, looking forward to breaking more stuff!

pretty good! I took some time to understand the controls, but once I did, I have a blast!

AMAZING

Cool submission ! I guess you were right with making a manual because for some reason I got stuck on level 2 for way too long.

Also the weird graphic glitches really enhances the Gameboy feeling.

Nice work, its great to see a wario-like in the jam! it was fun ransacking the place.
Regarding the items remaining counter, did you try pinning it to the screen?

DeveloperSubmitted (1 edit)

there isn't a way in the engine to pin it, i attempted it but this would either slow down the game, glitch, or because of the sprite limit crash the game. Wanted to edit GBStudio for this reason but  unfortunately their source code has out of date packages and is currently not functional.

Crazy that you made this in 24 hours very nice work. I love the Warioland inspired sprites and the the dialogue adds a lot of character to Oliver. Wish I could play this on a Gameboy but sadly I don't have one :(

Very neat little game! Always neat to see some Warioland-style graphics, that's a bit of my childhood right there, and the demolition idea's a fun one I'd love to see more of.

I understand the controls complaint - since I went in blind, when I pressed the X key and nothing happened, I just assumed the "B" key was on something else. Two drownings and several key presses later, I used the hammer by accident and from there could figure out the controls. I saw you'd planned for a normal B action, which would handily solve this issue - if you end up adding that action later, I think an up+B attack would truly complete the different-directions-for-different-moves thing!

Also I love the sprite art. It's got so much charm going on straight from the title screen, and I can easily see it among my gameboy games.

PS: At first, I thought the third level was me going to wreck my employer's house as revenge for making me wreck that outhouse. Still not entirely sure I was wrong, because that was a really good chair.

PPS: Some bugs - if you press "continue" after clearing the game, you get to see Oliver's body floating in the top left corner. And if you hit "new game" after clearing the game without refreshing the browser, it just replays the ending!

Ye idk why the bug on the last stage happens. something wrong with clearing storage. This is really noticible on the gameboy too, but not on the gbadvance i tested this on. Because of this weird bug it will probably also skip over the disable actor step so it will show him in the top left corner as its default starting position when no position is set.

Shame i got the sd cartridge for the gb after the jam. else i'd have caught those for sure

Fun concept. The controls were a little finicky as others have said. It would also have been nice to have the counter on screen at all times. Not bad!

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

ye an unfortunate limitation of GBStudio without putting it in a menu somewhere. why i hid it on the bottom left corner of the map permanently. A dirty but functioning solution.

Fun game to play, nice to see some gb studio entrys!

I think the gameplay would be really improved if he could attack with B, instead of having to run to attack.  ->+B

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

wanted to add a bash attack which i didn't add with the limit of sprites and all i have with my entry. currently B does the run only but i don't change the animation. but ye fair.

I really like this game but the controls are pretty finicky. He doesn't always want to swing their hammer at certain points. I do really like the art and the idea is cool.

DeveloperSubmitted

he'll only smack with movement. added a manual as B was technically already occupied with a move i didn't implement.

Submitted(+1)

Cool game. I like destroying things. I would like some more sound content.

Really interesting concept.  The art is great!  Was the character inspired by Wario? The controls seemed finicky to me. A little bit more refinement on the controls would make it even better I think.  This article about GB Studio platformer controls was really helpful to me. thanks will forsure implement the movement stuff to switch mid air. though was also like, it ain't that bad because i'm at a sprite limit and i can't spawn my attack twice on screen. so will be tricky to manage.

This game was really good. The artsyle was nice, and so was the gameplay!

the only things that could kinda be improved are the controls, as you need to be moving to hit something via ur hammer, which is kinda weird ngl, and the music. Don't get me wrong, the music is a vibe. Though maybe, just maybe, you could have thrown in the pulse channels for some added stuff. But that's an opinion anyways, and besides, it's still good.

DeveloperSubmitted

ye music was a last minute entry and the pulses i have are on the lowest bar. I also have 0 sense for music so ... :)
movement attacks were intended like that ye.

Controls are not very intuitive. But game looks good and i like that wario - type humour. Good job on making it work on real hardware!

Submitted(+1)

How fun! The art and design is very charming. Movement is a little finicky, and crushing that outhouse took a dozen tries, but using all the tools was quite engaging.

Great work!

Really unique take on the theme! Love the art style. The controls were a bit difficult but I don't know if that was intended. Having to move while using the hammer makes things trickier but that could be part of the challenge. Overall, cool take and like the extra touch of making it playable on gameboy.

i tried to figure out how the controls worked but i couldn't get anything to happen.

I’ve been defeated by Shrek’s outhouse!

I’m impressed by the fact this is an actual gb game. The manual in the page is a nice touch.

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

you jump on the roof with the drill holding down and B. bit iffy with the spritelimit i have that doesn't show the actual damage area.
