My feedback echos Gvon's almost exactly, I think

Developer

you think, therefore you are...

and yeah even i agree. will try to fix that post jam if i have the time!

Submitted (2 edits)

Like the idea, but the janky card controls and lack of feedback on incorrect solutions(a problem i also faced in my game) are holding it back from its full potential, I think.

Developer

Thanks for the comment! and i do plan on working on this post jam (i'll have to start from scratch but its 4 days of work so i should be able to do it quickly)
i'm looking to fix those problems on version 1.1

Submitted

Love the aesthetics, but had some trouble with moving the card around

Developer (1 edit)

Yes! really sorry about that. ill have to develop the dragging system from scratch after the jam is over (since thats the root of the problem)

edit: said es instead of yes

I loved the aesthetics. Was intrigued by the puzzles as well. Would definitely love to see it developed further.

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

I like this idea.

It's fun and I can see it getting more and more complex.

I also liked the style.

My only feedback is actually the link to the theme. I didn't feel like I was building anything, or scaling anything. I think the games that will do the best in this jam will have NAILED the theme.

Still a great idea, great game and great style.

Well done :)

Developer(+1)

Yeah, there was suposed to be a software-building part but i couldnt finish it on time, the poems are technically being built, but ig the theme was barely present here.

Submitted

Ah now that sounds cool! How was that going to work?

Submitted

This feels like the gamified version of those guess the emoticon puzzles, the idea is interesting but the execution could be better

Developer

emoticon puzzles? forgive me but idk what that is

Whenever the cards overlap, I have to restart the whole game and it's really annoying. But I liked the rthyhm puzzles and had a fun time. Great game!

Developer

Thanks! And i've heard that godot 4.3 has a fix for the overlap issue, so ill try that later!

Submitted

Putting the game in a crt screen is such a cool idea! The game itself was quite fun and the vibes are really fitting for the this type of game! Great work! :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I'm glad you liked the game, even though there was capa-barely enough puzzles to keep people wanting more

(im so sorry i couldnt pass the opportunity)

Submitted

Hahaha, this is awesome. I am not a native English speaker, so I had some trouble here and there, but it was overall pretty self-explanatory. This is a super-unique idea. I also absolutely love the CCTTV style.

The only criticism I have is that you couldn't move the cards around on the left side and that there weren't more puzzles. I want to keep playing. Please work more on this, it's a super fun idea.

Good job!

i love the look and theming of this... and gameplay was quite interesting (๑ᵔ⤙ᵔ๑)

A very clever way to intoduse a songs. Could be very intersting learning tool, well done!

Developer

thank you!

also i wasnt expecting someone to play my game because i played their game and gave feedback - i thought that was just a way of getting people to interact lmao

Submitted(+1)

Dont worry, it a good thing to see other mans mindset by checking their game and compare the comment. Pretty interesting)

Developer(+1)

yeah i mean ive been doing the same for my comments. nice to see the community helping each other grow

Enjoyable little taster and the setting (dilapidated computer) was great. Solid presentation overall.

Like others, I got confused as to why "down" didn't work in the first rhyme and I liked another commenter's suggestion of highlighting the target words. This would also allow you to expand the design space, for example, maybe some letters have been rubbed off the card, so now the player doesn't have all of the info. Great work weaving the glitches into the the setting / lore - an enviable feat indeed!

My biggest critique really is that the link to the theme is rather tenuous - I personally think the 'scale' aspect needs to be linked to player input / actions in some way and I didn't feel that was the case here. Perhaps the cards could be different widths and heights, and you have to scale the card to meet a certain-sized slot in the computer, or maybe to change what shows on the cards - for example the down arrow could have been all four arrows and the player needs to scale it so the down arrow fits into the computers scanner slots.

Congratulations on the solid submission, and providing an enjoyable few minutes.

Developer

Thanks a lot! wasnt expecting feedback this good tbh. will keep that in mind!

also yes the 'down' part was a mistake on my part for not playtesting the game at all.

i did actually try highlighting but it just caused some more bugs with the drag n drop (the cards flew away for no reason smh)

and the link was originally perfect - but i couldnt add some of the theme connections; funny enough, there was actually a concept where the player could cut out a picture and only take out the parts they needed to attach to the frame, but it seemed too ambitious for my skill level so i decided to go with basic cards

Submitted

No worries! You've already succeeded because we're here commenting on your submission so I think your scoping was spot on.

I've no idea of your experience with games, but if you're new, I'd recommend seeing this one through to completion if you can. You've done the hard part - come up with a neat concept - and expanding the game, incorporating player feedback and producing a final 'product' will be a great exercise and experience you can take with you to another game and / or jam.

Developer

Well i'm not necessarily 'new' but certainly not experienced. i started during 2020 (i did make games in scratch before then, though those were just story games where all you had to do was click spacebar)

and i've never released a full game before, so i guess ill take you up on that and try to make this a full game (although it would have to be later cuz im already working on another project and ive got really important exams happening at the start of next year!)

Submitted

Awesome, I look forward to seeing the next iteration / final version in the near future then! ;) Good luck for the exams too!

Submitted

Pretty nice game overall! I loved the vibes of the game. The puzzles were pretty nice, but the BUGS were frustrating.

Developer(+1)

Yeah the bugs really take away from this game. probably should have spent time focusing on that instead of planning ideas that never entered the game lmao

although it can also be argued that the bugs are designed to show the computer sabotaging your run (this is not true, im just making up an excuse)

i blame the guy who developed the computer engine lmao

Submitted

You should join the post jam jam I reckon. Cuz the game got some potential.

Developer(+1)

i'd love to! but school has started and i highly doubt i'd have the time

but if im able to i'd certainly do it!

i mean it has a longer time limit and just seems like a way to slow down the hype after gmtk, so i think ill do it!

no promises tho :3

Fun little game ! I had a great time playing it ! Nice job

Developer

Thannks! your game was really fun too!

Submitted

Fun idea

Think the background doesn't blend with the card art or the vibe of the music.

Would like to have had some false cards so have some form of challenge as it get progressively easier rather than more difficult (like pairs)

Fun game in card form for young children though.

I like the fact that your bugs are now lore :D

Well done

Developer(+1)

Thanks! and i agree with the not-matching part, didnt have time so i just added whatever art looked decent enough.

And originally there were false cards, like crown and cheese, but i decided to remove because i wanted players to know that all cards were required.

and bugs?! what bugs? hehehehehhehe

Submitted

Cool concept but too much text :)) Good job.

Submitted

good game but there are bugs

Submitted

Really fun concept!

Submitted

It would have been nicer if the elements were more gradually introduced to the player, such as having the first level limited to only the three cards you needed to use, and maybe having the relevant words highlighted as well. Figuring out the rest of the puzzle from there was pretty fun though.

Developer

Thanks a lot!

That was actually supposed to be the case lol. had the tutorial scene ready and everything, but in the end i decided to throw it out cuz i realised it would take too long to explain everything

and ig it also fits the theme of the computer not teaching you how to play and trying to sabotage you (in itch page desc)

Submitted

Nice interpretation and an interesting puzzle design. One thought is, if this is in Godot (which I think it is), as of 4.3 you can now use a function to select only the top item. I kept grabbing more than one which made it a bit tough to finished the game. overall great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! And yes it is in godot, although i was using 4.2

but thanks for telling me this, its really helpful!

Submitted (1 edit)

no problem, I made a similar game a few jams ago and bashed my head against the wall making it  pick off the top with an array system and the picking the last thing in the tree in the array, I was kinda mad when I found out that they just added a new functionality to 4.3 haha
