Really, seriously polished game here. Everything about the art is on point. I think the gameplay(mainly the paddle physics) could use some fine, tuning, but that art makes up for a lot of the faults.

Big bonus points for Style. The art is super pleasing. I'd love to sit on the couch and play this on the Switch! The ball physics seemed a little off at times but a great spin on Breakout. The only other thing I didn't get was the gray bricks seemed to only break with the angry ball. So do you have to just take damage to hit those and hope the ball hits them? I was kinda confused by that part, but overall, very enjoyable game and it just looked and sounded so great! Awesome job guys!

Developer

Thank you for your review! Yes, the gray bricks are intended to only break with the angry ball, so player need to survive the next damaging bounce with shooting the hearts. Glad you enjoyed our game! :)

Loved the style! I think there were a couple bugs where the ball would not be grabbable and move the same direction as the platform. Other than that great work!

A really fun little game with an interesting twist on the idea of ball breaker (but here it's a paddle breaker). I miss score and leaderboard UI, but it's a good polished idea, GG!

Pretty cool idea, though I think the ball physics need a bit of work, it feels like it sends at the same angle no matter where it hits the paddle, and can sometimes send straight up underneath an unbreakable block with means you're forced to lose. Also, just an idea, turning the concept on its head could also be cool, where hitting the blocks causes the ball to grow and you have to carefully balance its size with your health. Just an idea, though, still pretty neat, and with more time it could be a really great version of breakout!

Thank you for the review. We will tweak the ball physics in the future to make it even more enjoyable. And that reverse scaling idea is also cool! Thank you for playing our game. :)

Very kawaii style by Aldenaire, good concept, fitting sounds from Coloralpha, and pretty fun design by CapedHorse. Only issue was the ball physics did very strange things like extremely slow floaty pathing or the shrink not working. The paddle and ball being in a relationship is very funny but it seems like paddle needs to get out of there, very abusive. The music asset chosen was ok as a fit but could've been a little more distinct.

Thank you for the detailed review! Definitely during the development we thought that Paddle needs to stand their own ground but maybe in next development hahah. Glad you enjoyed our game! :)

Nice twist to the break out game, love the dynamic difficulty that player get to choose own play style about scaling the ball: the bigger balls makes it easy to hit objects, easier to pick up, but more risk to break, very fun to play through

Developer

Glad you noticed the scaling as the dynamic difficulty we want to expose to the player. Glad you enjoyed playing our little game! :)

Wow, those are the most polished visuals I've seen in the Jam so far! The balance between offence and defence is also super cool in a game like this. Really slick, great job!

Love the artstyle and music, really cozy vibe and style. The paddle's movement sensitivity feels way too high for me, while the heart projectile was really small, which made it pretty hard to aim and catch the ball properly. I also experienced a glitch where moving the paddle left and right would also move the ball left and right(in addition to the ball's diagonal movement) so I couldn't touch the ball at all. Good game with the potential to be great with some minor tweaks and bug fixes!

Developer

We are sorry that you experience the inconveniences. We will take into account about the movement and balance to make this game even more enjoyable. We are also sorry for the bugs, will take notes for future tweaks. Thank you!

This is pretty unique! The player can just spam hearts though so it’s a bit unneeded to have the paddle break. Maybe a timer in between each heart-shot could fix it.

Developer

About that, player is actually not supposed to spam hearts because there are many tougher bricks to break through next level (hence, player need to balance the size with hearts shooting). But we might take into account about the heart shot timer in the future. Thank you, we enjoyed the lovely game of yours too!

It is a very interesting game and a very good reinterpretation of the classic Arkanoid to adapt it to the theme. The music is excellent and the art is very cute. Great Job!!

A really neat twist on Brick Breaker!! The obvious standout is the art direction; I love the UI, the bright colors, and the overall warm and lovely vibe of the art. It really and truly reminds me of older flash games on the internet. Adding the survival aspect to the gameplay makes it intriguing and engaging, forcing the player to split their focus between breaking bricks and maintaining Ball’s size and status.

While I did enjoy the game, the concept behind it is a tad simple for the theme. But simple is not necessarily a bad thing! In addition to this, there were several bugs that were a little too easy to come across, such as Ball breaking Paddle even after I managed to decrease Ball’s size, and Ball growing even larger than its Berserk mode (without being in Berserk) after I had to spam in order to get it out of a tough spot.

Overall, a pleasant experience. The fact that this was made by two people yet looks and plays nicely truly baffles me!

Developer(+1)

You really hit the nails with the older flash games comment! Thank you for the lovely comment for our art. The mechanic is meant to be simple because we want to invoke cozy feeling with simple gameplay yet adhering to the theme. And we are sorry for the bugs, we have little time to playtest it. Thank you for the kind comment!
