Cool idea! The boss battle was intense and fun, congrats!
Cheers! :)
Thanks for playing and the taking the time to leave feedback!
pretty cool! did you make all the artwork, sounds, and music yourself?
I did all of the art in this game during the jam except for the boss bullets.. they are a reskin of previously made stuff. Some sounds were made with various tools, from my large cc0 collection, or are licensed by me for use… sound is not a strength for me (yet); just picking stuff already made is hard for me!
neat!
Pretty great! A simple and enjoyable game.
It would be nice to be able to restart without refreshing, then I wouldn’t have to rebind my controls. I super love that I can bind the controls, though! Thanks!
I am really sorry about the respawn issue. The restart button broke about 30 minutes before the submission period ended and it was a restart button or a boss that started attacking when the game loaded in. Leson learned… do no work in the code last day of the jam… just let the game be!
I managed to win the game with normal bullets! I like the art and the abyss aesthetic in the game. It would be great if you'd be able to navigate the settings and start the game using keyboard only because the game play itself is keyboard only. Good job overall though, I had fun playing it through till the end.
Keyboard navigation of the menus is something that just slipped by me as a thing completely! Thank you for the feedback!
Yaaay, I made it to the boss with the pacifist mode. In order to not be able to win haha. I was hoping there would be a secret way to win in pacifist mode. Alas, I stopped after a couple of minutes in the safe zone of the boss.
There was a plan to have a way to win.. it is sitting on the todo list for sometime in the future…. the game was originally going to start in pacifist mode with you gaining a bullet mid boss fight =)
This was short but honestly quite a bit of fun. I love a good horizontal shmup, and this was solid for a jam game. The art is really good, especially the boss. I'm not sure how you made your art, but this quasi-digitized photo cutout look is actually really stylish, and your choice of colors was great and very atmospheric. And, the audio -- the music was great, and the random pitch-shifted quacks gave me a laugh.
Great job!
Thanks for playing!
The art took up most of my time in this jam! I checked my time tracker today and it clocked me actively working in Aseprite for over 35 hours during this jam.
I think the real secret is a TON of parallax layers (there are a total of 9 not including the ones for the plants) plus some experimentation with lighting and alpha channels. I also think the limited pallet did a bunch of work as well.
The boss was inspired by this guy (I am sad that I did not have the time to implement the glowing eye patch / flashing that it does irl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATWHi88fQRI&ab_channel=BBC
Well done! I did find I could move the d.u.c.k. down below the spawn area of the enemies which probably wasn't intended but otherwise a well polished game
I did notice a few safe areas and thought I would keep them in so no matter what everyone could get to the end. It was also really useful for testing things! Thanks for playing and leaving feedback!
Ah of course, that makes sense you wouldn't want people missing out on the boss
Fun game :)
I liked that keybinds and volume sliders were added, those are very welcome.
Thanks for playing! The keybinds are new to me.. but hooking up volume control is the first thing I work on when doing UI stuff; mostly for my own sanity. xD
Volume controls were also one of the first things I added when implementing the UI for my game. The default settings are too loud sometimes :/
I won with 51/56/46, using the normal duck, after losing with the piercing duck. I like the use of the curse wildcard for the duck options.
And the background is lovely!
Thanks for playing and the feedback! I am not really good with the piercing duck myself! I think that the suggestion to somehow mark the mobs with more health would help make it a bit more fair and easier to manage.
very good art in general, but the boss and mainly the background and paralax are SO pretty, I was sad in the boss fight when the background stopped moving
great work!
Thanks for playing and the feedback!
Love this game, loved watching the dev for it! Overall great work!

Thanks for playing and the feedback, I am going to go back and watch the vod of you playing when your stream is over!
I did not want to have the theme be a mechanic as I felt there would be a ton of games with that going on. I definitely do agree that it could have been used in a more drastic way. I did have a few ideas, but they came way too late to be implemented.
Thank you for reminding me to activate the VOD, it is now up https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2228421317?t=02h04m33s will go directly to the playthrough of your game
Really fun to play. Lots of attention to detail, which I appreciate a lot!
The main menu offers on-point settings for volume and keybinds (unfortunately for me keybinds don't work at all, and trying to reassign "up" actually breaks the game for me).
Going into the game it took me a second to figure out that all objects are "enemies" and need to be avoided. After that it was a literal blast shooting away and trying to get as far as possible!
On a sidenote the audio kept crackling and glitching for me, which is unfortunate but I had to mute the game after a few minutes in worry of damaging my speakers. The song, sounds and QUACK are amazing though!
Fantastic submission!
The sound was a nightmare on this project! I would not be surprised if sounds that are assigned and should play but never actually did were causing issues. I can’t seem to reproduce the key binding issue on my machine, but the code for that is sloppy and needs a full rework.
I am glad that you were still able to play and enjoy it once you got things figured out.
Thanks for playing and leaving amazing feedback!
Gotta love that parallax background. The controls are very nice, it feels very polished. Really like the detail that you can only have 4 bullets in screen at once, makes you think more of when to shoot. The boss was really cool, I was surprised at how big it was. Awesome job!
I really struggled with how much of the screen the boss should take up. It was hard to balance looking like a big scary boss and making the game feel really claustrophobic. Thanks for taking the time to play and leave feedback!
Good job! I loved the background and the music is really good! I thought the idea was cool and overall a pretty solid game.
Thanks for playing and leaving feedback, I am happy you enjoyed it!
Nice job, I chuckled with each quack shot. Having customizable controls is great, though having a button to restart so I don't have to rebind them each time would have been nice, which I did do because I had to at least get to the boss.
The quack was one of the last things I added… I giggled quite messing around with it myself.
I am really sorry about the respawn issue. The restart button broke about 30 minutes before the submission period ended and it was a restart button or a boss that started attacking when the game loaded in xD.
Removing the button was something that hurt to do and is definitely something I plan on fixing once the jam is over.
Thanks for playing and leaving feedback!
Great game! I really liked the boss battle, it was super intense!
Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed it.
Good bit of fun to play through. Favourite part was holding right in the pacifist mode and trying to dodge and weave by everything. Boss as well as the background is amazing to look at. Awesome work!
Thanks for playing and the feedback! I spent a lot of time on the art… way too much time actually, so I am glad you enjoyed it!
