I cannot believe this was done in two weeks. I can't even complete the whole thing, I don't know what I'm missing but after Mumei's ability I got stuck. The art is lovely, the puzzles are good, there's so much GAME here, this could've been someone's months long passion project!
There are still places that are a bit odd, I wish I could remap the pause key to something besides escape, since escape also exits fullscreen, meaning I have to exit fullscreen to reset the puzzles. The main dining hall also seems to have issues with the powers not working. (Possibly intentional, I don't know)
But this! Divine! Exquisite!
Excellent Game! Beautiful work!

This is incredible! The pixel artwork, the animations vfx, sfx and not to mention all the cool mechanic and idea of each puzzles! I almost forgot that the game is made for a Jam in 2 WEEKS!

Although I have some criticism,

  • The box physic feels quite flimsy and floaty, that it make puzzle sometimes feels harder than its intended.
  • The movement speed when player are on moving platform feels greatly reduced, making it quite hard to maneuver
  • It would also be nice to have a tutorial on some buttons, and abilities.

With that being say,  this is fantastic work!

Such an amazing game! The art is very charming and the puzzles are really clever. It's a little janky at a few points, but I managed to fully complete it. I'm impressed how much content you managed to fit in just two weeks!

I really enjoyed the game! The art style greatly enhances the mysterious atmosphere while solving the puzzles. There are a lot of fun puzzles to go through, and the use of different abilities to solve them makes the game feel very polished and complete. Very impressive!

As others have mentioned, there's a bug where multiple abilities can be selected. I tested it and found that the issue seems to occur when opening or closing the ability menu while spamming the up/down keys to select abilities. Another bug I encountered was that if the player jumps while standing at certain bookmarks, it skips the dialogue.

You guys absolutely cooked! It was super fun figuring out each puzzle, and the art style and music all meshed well together. There was a real sense of learning all the mechanics as they came, from the boxes to backstabbing to buttons and more, and a nice bit of exploration in the hub area. It did get a little confusing navigating the UI after multiple powers were unlocked, since multiple powers could also activate at once. Amazing job!

Guys. You must have gone insane for the 2 week jam because holy shit. There is so much good content in here. The puzzles, for the most part, are all very well crafted. The only one I found myself disliking was the one to unlock the gravity swap since the boxes I was jumping on were off screen, but that might have been because I was doing an unintended strategy and it still felt really good to finally get it. On that note though, the way that the abilities work really encourage you to experiment and I love them, especially Kronii and Sana's.  I definitely feel like I did some rooms the unintended way since I'd end up with multiple uses left of some abilities in rooms lol.

I only have a few criticisms. Sometimes when I got a new ability it would forcibly kick me out of the memory when I feel like there was supposed to be dialogue. This also happens if you die while reading a memory and are in the dialogue box (this happened to me in one of the prison rooms). This made it so Bae's ability wasn't really explained to me, but I got it in the end. Fauna's bird movements are also a bit slippery and imprecise, which is fine, but some of the segments where you need to be a bird require precise movement and I found that a bit frustrating, particularly controlling ascent or descent.

Shiori also blends in sometimes with the dark backgrounds. I feel like a white outline and/or making the sprite a bit brighter overall would really help contrast her against the background, particularly in the memories.

I also ran into a glitch in the final puzzle room where the dialogue wouldn't play (see below screenshot). I got this by clearing the room while Kronii's time stop was active. Deactivating it caused it to move forward one line of dialogue. But I also triggered it while it was off so idk.

You don't need to do this but I think the cheat codes should be a bit more hidden and harder to accidentally input because once I accidentally disabled gravity swap and I had no idea how to turn it back on lol. And since the cursor was already on it I couldn't move it back and select time stop so I had to reset. Kind of unfortunate but I was mashing buttons a bit lmao.

A couple of small bugs I found were:

  • if you stand next to an object you can pick up but it moves away from you, the pick up icon will still remain on Shiori.
  • Attacking an enemy while its dying makes it restart the dying animation
  • If you are in stopped time and stand on top of a box, you can pick it up and hold jump. This makes Shiori go into the pick up animation and then jump in mid air after the animation is done. This is honestly really cool and imo you shouldn't remove this. Its also how I solved the room where you get Sana's ability.

At the end of the day though, these are all kind of small compared to what you managed to achieve. Seriously great work here. I loved playing through this game. Amazing work.

Thank you so much for playing our game and with the incredible feedback, we will discuss this internally and work on a fix after the jam!

This is a really charming Metroidvania! And is very very polished, the art and animations were amazing, is satisfying to unlock more sections, and Shiori has so many mechanics to interact with the stages. Also plus for having a menu with many options, I once entered one of the stages again as a mistake, but it was great that there was an option to leave, and return to the hub.
My only suggestion would be to let the player attack at any time, however you could include the current backstab mechanic as a "Bonus Damage", and even as a mechanic to defeat certain types of enemies, like a weak point.

Having said that, My congratulations to all the team involved in the project, you all did an amazing job in this game.

Very impressive how much you all got done in two weeks. Besides a few small issues such as boxes not triggering swtiches and the promt to pick them up not showing occasionally, this felt like a complete game. I don't know how long the game actually is, but I got through most of the levels in the commons and got stuck at one spot. It was very fun and I liked the puzzle platforming along with the different abilites. Great job everyone!

Artstyle is GORGEOUS and I really like the animations you made for Yoricks :3 Took me a while to figure out controls but overall a great game!

Developer

Really glad you enjoyed it! I'll be sure to get to your game soon! It's art also caught my attention.

I think I kinda bugged the game out and created an exploit? even though that too is buggy af xD

The Room where I unlocked the Time Stop Ability I somehow also got an gravity invert ability. and judging by the next few rooms that shouldnt be the case cause I literally could skip through the whole jump and run act by just inverting gravity and going to the other side through the ceiling. Now the buggy Part of that. I couldnt exactly "choose" which power to activate. sometimes it selected time stop, sometimes invert gravity and sometimes the selection even selected both abilities at once and couldnt "deselect" them. But also no matter what Ability is "selected", both Abilities will activate at the same Time no matter what. If you time stop, invert gravity also activates and vice versa. That made one of the later Rooms impossible since i needed to stop time to get a box into a hole with a button but since i also inverted gravity (which i COULDNT reinvert) the box was basically at the ceiling with no way to get it down. And that room was basically a soft lock because of this bug. Will see if I come back to it to retry it again from the very beginning without the bug xD

Anyways, apart from that, I really like how each Memory unlocks a new section of the map and the paper flipping sound is kinda satisfying to hear xD Mechanic wise also really fun!

Developer

There are actually a few hidden cheat codes in the game. I think you may have inputted the unlock gravity cheat code button combination. I thought it was well hidden enough to not be run into. But it is Jump + Interaction + up + Ability at the same time to unlock invert gravity.
As for the both ability bug? Not sure what could have caused that. May have been related to activating the cheat code in a weird spot.

Regardless, you can also reset a room using the Pause menu if you get stuck.

Submitted

well it was not softlocked because i got stuck and i already found the restart button. It was rather the softlock cause both abilities get used at the same time and inverted gravity made that room impossible

Love the mix of metroidvania and puzzles genre, pretty ambitious for a game jam game! Quite a few minor frustrations on UI navigation, and collision seems abit wonky at times as well.
Other than that, game itself is really fun! I can see myself coming back to this again when the creases are a little more ironed out. Thanks!

Developer

Hello! Thanks for the feedback!

I am just curious, do you recall any specific frustrations with the UI navigation that you encountered I think it may be possible that could be something that I may be able to fix.

Like Guuchan mentioned, mainly that "up" activates abilities, while down scrolls through the selection. I've activated abilities countless times without meaning to.

I personally think changing to a WASD+mouse would be more intuitive, so you can aim your throws and also select abilities by hovering over them and clicking.

I mentioned aiming throws, because I have encountered a few time where i need to throw something ahead but ends up dropping it and vice versa. Would be nice if I can have more control over where i throw. If aiming vertically can cheese some puzzles, maybe limit it to horizontal, but show a guideline so that I'd know at least where it'll end up.

Just my 2 cents. These are big changes though, so it can prolly wait till post jam XD

Developer

Fixed the up UI input bug before the grace period ended!

As for aiming throws. Well, that's a bit more of a change. Maybe some other day.

I enjoyed the atmosphere of the game. I got stuck on one of the box puzzles (lantern drop) for so long haha but I still had fun. Only issue with the game for me was the issue that David also mentioned. It could get very frustrating when jump also activated abilities (sometimes causing to player to need to restart to progress)

Great visuals and interesting mechanic

Jam Judge(+1)

I liked the pixel art and the overall ambience. Good job!

I didn't realise I could attack the enemies and was just jumping around them for a while. In my mind interact =/= attack.

I got stuck because the time ability kept triggering when I jumped or tried interacting for the first time in each room. Since the ability is supposed to be activated at a specific time to solve puzzles, I just couldn't progress.

I'm guessing it's a bug or I'm bad at interacting with the UI? It felt like the ability got selected by default when entering a room. Couldn't find a way to deselect it no matter what keys I pressed.

For context, I was playing with keyboard using WASD for movement, Space for jump, and E and R for interaction and ability.

The puzzles were pretty fun to solve, at least up to the part of the game I could play.

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback, we are currently working on some major bug fixes.

We hope that you will find the time to try it out again once we resolved the issues. 💗

Developer

Hmm... Not sure where the bug is coming from. I updated it so selecting restart from the pause menu should deselect whatever you have selected though. It may be worth a shot to see if that solves the issue?

Developer

(only if you want to of course)

Really liked the setting of the game, well done!

Minor things:

UI elements could match the art style better;

Some level design choices were a bit confusing.
