- Immediately nails the theme and style, with it being both relevant to the level design, world design and gameplay mechanics. Continues to develop the mechanics and difficulty with minimal instruction right up to the "end" which then unlocks genuinely challenging levels and a speedrun mode. Top shelf.
- this is a STRONG contender! i really genuinely enjoyed my time playing hosehead, i even went for some of the challenge levels, despite having 1400 submissions to view, absolutely stellar, you should absolutely expand this concept, and make this a full release, id pay money for it! a couple upgrades or new mechanics to expand it once we get used to it, different environments and bosses. for real, you've got gold here.

Really nice game. Got quite quickly the feeling of "how on earth i can't shoot where i need to" when jumping around and spraying water in wrong directions! Thanks, really awesome experience!
Cool experience! I really like challenging platformers so I found it really fun to try and get through levels putting out as little fire as possible
And I love the end screen, that was really well-done!
Really good game, feels kind of complete and ready for launch
Insanely good, if I was a judge you probably be one of the winners.
on another note, I couldn't find your social media linked to itch io, I would really like to follow your growth in game development, pretty sure you make it big
Thank you for the kind words!
I don't really have much of an online presence right now, but I might try to start some sort of youtube content in the near future!
are the screams sampled from It Takes Two? love the music anyways. it's a very well polished game, and have actual gameplay and fun factor to it. Really like the pixel art elements of the design, but I think the overall art direction suffers from the lack of environmental details. Just some basic pixel art tiles would lead to a more coherent look, instead of the current one. I also kinda miss some surprising factor from the gameplay, it gets a bit predictable after a few levels, some buffs or new mechanics would skyrocket this entry into a very good and fun game.
Hope you find these comments helpful, I think this game is one of the best ones in the jam. Hope you will have the chance to further develop it, as it has a very high ceiling I feel. great great job!
Hey thank you for the very helpful and detailed feedback!
The screams in the music are sampled from 'Lyn Collins - Think (About It)' and 'Reverend W.A. Donaldson & Congregation - Baptizing Scene (1959)' (a sample from Kanye West's Paris song)
And yes I definitely agree that the art direction was quite weak in this game compared to other aspects like the gameplay, music or UI. art is the part of gamedev that I struggle with most - i often find it quite hard, and not super enjoyable. I attempted background decor / furniture, but scrapped it since it didn't look great. I think spending more time on improving the game's art (and improving my art skills) is a really good idea, and I think your feedback is spot on.
I think the predictable, repetitive aspect of the gameplay is a fair point too. new obstacles or mechanics that are part of the level itself would be my main focus if I extended the scope of the game - things like water refill zones, moving obstacles or platforms, that sort of thing could be nice. I'll definitely keep your advice in mind if i further develop the game.
Thank you again for the well-written feedback, I really appreciate it!
The game feels great! Nice graphics, good controls, and a very good implementation of the theme :) Well done!
Great game, very polished, nice level design :)
Daamn that was such a nice game! Amazing job!
incredibly polished game for a game jam! well done. loved every second of it. was smart to ad the hard levels as a bonus. very fun mechanics cool music and great premise. keep up the amazing work
Wow, this game is awesome. The movement feels super fluid and fun. Feels like it would be great to speedrun.
Great concept and game, it remembered me somehow of The Fireman from SNES :D
Very easy concept made in a very fun and enjoyable way.
For me elecrticity hazard is such a clever feature!
Loved playing it.
Simple effective and fun. Good job.
Best game I've played in the jam so far. Very fun and unique mechanic. Very good job
Well done - I'm bad at platformers and its too hard for me, but I got a great feel for the game you did a lot with a simple concept and it looks great.
Thank you so much! Sorry that it was too hard - balancing the difficulty was quite a tough challenge for me, and perhaps in the future some settings could be added so more people can enjoy the game.
This game was a lot of fun, even on a laptop with a touchpad, which added an extra layer of challenge! The only hiccup I encountered was getting unexpectedly defeated by invisible fire in the top left corner of what I believe was the fourth level. This leads to my constructive suggestion—it would be beneficial to have an indication of the current level for easier debugging. Of course, it's entirely possible that I'm the only one facing this issue. Nevertheless, great job! P.S. The game has given me a newfound appreciation for firefighters and the hazards they navigate. Well done!
Thanks for playing, and thanks for your feedback! I believe you were playing the 6th level, where there is a big smokey area at the top left - admittedly, its not very clear that it kills you, so I'll try make it more clear in the next update! Currently, the pause menu does mention what level you are on too, but its not very obvious, and I might change this in a future update too
I was afraid I might had missed a feature. I don't think I paused at all while playing which makes sense! Still a really fun game!
Took me so many tries to beat. Great mechanics, very challenging, rewarding, and awesome art and music. Great entry!
I was wondering how polished other games would be since we only had 2 weeks, as soon as i saw the start menu i knew we had a contender for first place. It looks really nice and although the gameplay is super weird its effective. Really great job!
I loved it, keep it up.
Game is really fun. Very difficult! Nice job. Bouncy music and nice simple art style.
