Really impressed here by the animations, which bring gory life to the screaming undead in a more convincing way than I would have expected. The encounters are a good scare and I enjoyed getting bile vomit on me whilst trying to repel them. I also enjoyed searching for the ducks and picking up the little pieces of the story in notes.
Thanks for submitting Unholy exorcism to the jam!
I loved the mechanics, being able to use the magic of the sacred to defeat demons, but also having to hide our light to be able to go to certain places, it’s very well thought out, a whole game with even more puzzles could be envisaged! Well done!
now this is a legit horror game! love the multiple endings and the restrictions and mechanics build into the game. the notes as a way of storytelling really fit the atmosphere as well. great entry!
Fun concept and execution.
I really like the polish on this one, I especially liked the banish effect. My only complaint is that I would ping and start looking at some random point. I'm guessing because I was playing in the browser.
I played the game, and the gameplay was both engaging and well-polished!
Here are a few suggestions that could make it even better:
First, the sound design was great overall, but some areas felt a bit too quiet. For example, adding sound effects when dissolving enemies would make the experience feel more complete.
Second, adding variety to certain game elements could really enhance the gameplay and atmosphere. For instance, using different styles of note paper or introducing two or three unique enemy model would keep things visually fresh.
Overall, it was a great game, and I really enjoyed it, well done!
this was really cool! loved the main mechanic and the atmosphere to it. i kept getting got by the guy after the first red wall (guarding the duck) cause i figured you needed to run into his hidey hole, but it turns out you wanna go the opposite direction so he'll run out and you have more room. i think you could definitely expand on this, the way the light around the character goes out when you use the cross is just such a great touch and would give you so much room for good setups in a larger project. either way what you have here is really nice, great job!
Very cool game.
The first time one of the ghouls chases you, ends up being a bit harsh in terms of difficulty. I feel that before that encounter the player must understand they are a one-hit and that the cross should slow down the enemies when they're disintegrating; something along those lines.
The actual effect of the discussion is done well. The miniature puzzle mechanic of putting your cross down is simple but gives you something interesting to do and adds to the scare factor when you have to enter a strange new section without your weapon/light source equipped.
The sound design is good, the high-pitched droning works well. The fog looks nice, the models are well done, and the animations work well. The visuals are overall top-notch; captures the retro feel fantastically.
Very good submission.
Thanks for playing!
I agree with the enemy mechanic, it was necessary to add a stun effect (or slowdown as you wrote). In its current form, it’s frustrating when you almost drive out the undead, but the player is killed by “empty space.” Thanks for the feedback.
Amazing concept honestly, could see this been declined with taoist monks!~
Well done! The game is very well-polished. The cross machinic was well executed and enjoyable. I didn't encounter any issues with the game, except you can use the cross without it being active but that may have been intentional. Good work!
Thanks for playing. I checked, using the cross when it is hidden, it is a bug...
The cross mechanic is really well executed; the game design is modest yet very well balanced. And the detail with the flying crows – I loved it
A really cool game! That cross effect was really cool, and the shader effects were pretty good. I did experience a bit of stuttering while playing, especially in the beginning and when entering the church. I got 2 of the 3 endings but couldn’t find any ducks, lol. Anyway, great game!
Супер! Отличная задумка и оформление. Хорошая работа со звуком. Ещё и несколько концовок! Огонь!
Really impressive game for a 7 day jam. Excellent aesthetics, very evocative story bits, and fun gameplay.
"i can't banish them, they are my brothers"
"ILL DO IT GIVE ME THAT CROSS"
freaking awesome job dude!
*Doom music starts playing*
Well well well, it seems the true god was the ducks we found along the way.
Good game, I had fun, especially after I heard about the ducks, but very atmospheric, nice vibe and the mechanic worked well. I could see this be lot longer, but like this it works super well too. Good job.
Thanks for playing! This time I decided to spend more time polishing the game. Therefore, some of the planned content did not make it into the game. But I think it’s better to have less and good than more and ordinary.
Great game, and I actually enjoyed it! The cross gameplay reminded me of the old game Nosferatu, where a similar mechanic was used to scare off enemies. It’s also cool that there’s VFX for destroying monsters and objects with the cross’s light. I played through the game about 4 times but couldn’t find the last ending. I noticed a fenced-off area with benches and monsters behind them but couldn’t figure out how to access it. I never got a chance to interact with the second duck :(
Thanks for palying!
You opened my childhood memories, I remember that I also played Nosferatu (but during the jam I completely forgot about this game).
The secret ending is revealed if you collect all the ducks, but it is made for fun and is not necessary. So you haven't lost anything. But what if the second duck is in the place where the enemy runs out. You can manage to exorcism him, but I won’t tell you exactly how :P
Amazing game! I really loved the overall feel of the game it had a very complete feel I didn't ever get that feeling of "oh this shoulda been added" it felt like the game had the perfect amount and everything felt polished.
I love the mechanic you have in for banishing it added a lot to the game and really sets it apart from all the other games in the jam doing similar themes!
The sound, the graphics, and the story are fantastic! I enjoyed it a lot
