Our game Spaced takes place in what some would call the final frontier, which coincidentally is the second theme of this game jam, space.

I'm a sucker for adaptive music, so I absolutely loved the footsteps adding percussion instead of just being sound effects. The visuals are very pleasing, and of course I liked the cover of Fly Me to The Moon. The only issue I had was a feeling of lack of agency, but I still did make it to the ship - I just think a faster walk might help (or maybe I'm meant to use the smaller planets to change my jump angle?).
I liked it the most when I was close to the ship, and I was trying different jumps to see which direction I was meant to go - I had a stronger feeling of progress when I saw that one jump made the icon light up, and the other didn't.
Overall, very charming and I liked it.
You make some interesting points regarding feelings of agency and progression. A certain level of hopelessness and helplessness is desirable, to really nail the feeling of isolation in space, but one still wants to feel like progress is being made.
Food for thought.
Thank you very much for playing, and for sharing your insights!
Nice short game. Would be nice to have some control of the player while floating or being able to tell where planets are when they are outside of your view so that you don't float for super long and get lost.
I really enjoyed bouncing planet to planet, music and graphics are really cool !
Nicely done - great art and music. Simple and fun gameplay!
Cool concept:) I enjoyed searching around for the ship. The icon gave just enough info to help you without making it too easy. Nice music and color palette too
Solid graphics and sounds, though it was kind of boring trying to figure out if you're going the right way.
Solid game, pretty fun and cute I love the chiptune rendition of Fly me to the moon that you got there :D
Nails the theme and the gameboy aesthetic! Fun and cute :) The stress I felt when I mis-aimed a jump and started drifting off into space felt very authentic to real life space travel, haha.
Nice, easy, fun to play, missed the ship with the last jump and flew far away lol.
Love the ending music stinger. The choice of palette colors is very relaxing while still feeling space-y.
This was such a cute concept! The gameplay of jumping from moon to moon was simple but satisfying <3
Super fun game and a really interesting concept! The instructions with icons on page were very much appreciated.
Managed to sail into the ship with 12% on my first try and literally burst out laughing when I realized what the ending song was :D Great job!
I played it without using the instructions provided at first, so it took two or three tries because I misunderstood the radar and I sometimes wondered if I was even doing the right thing or if I was missing something vital, but somehow I managed to get to my ship with 01% oxygen left! Only then did I check the instructions and could, now that I understood things fully, find my ship with 32% oxygen.
It's a very cute game! I like the graphics a lot, and it's neat how your speed is different depending on the size of the planet you're on. The music is calm and cozy too -- while the game would benefit from having more in regards to menuing and tutorial, I have no complaints about the gameplay itself. Except maybe that sometimes a blind jump leaves me floating through deep space for several seconds because I miss all the planets... But that one's probably on me.
So, nice work!
Cute graphics. I love the appearance of the planets, and walking all the way around them in a matter of seconds. It reminded me of The Little Prince.
Also, very original gameplay. I was occasionally frustrated when a ridiculously long jump turned out to be in the wrong direction, but those are the breaks!
One quibble about the presentation: Because of the humongous distances involved, I don't think stars parallax in the way depicted. I think an immobile starfield plane would have been more accurate.
I also appreciate the very helpful little tutorial on the game page!
Thank you for your kind words!
I will have a word with our parallax expert. Heads will roll!
I kid, i kid. We took some artistic liberties, but maybe we'll tweak it a little bit. It's just that it gave the jumps more of a "movement" feel, since the character stays in the middle at all times.
Thanks again!
Nice little game, short but sweet. I took a moment to understand where I was supposed to go but it was fun anyway, also love the art and music
