The art, audio, and concept are top notch! You perfectly nailed the retro aesthetic and sound. People bring up Atari, but I kinda saw Colecovision a little bit. Idk, I wasn't alive back then.

I for the life of me could not clear the initial wave without failing once or twice, which showed up as 3 for me? Also, when restarting the game, it would keep my configuration of traps from the previous fail state. However, building up failure states and accumulating money worked. So I was able to progress. Once I did that, it became possible to progress.

All in all, I liked it, but I feel that could use a little tweak. Or perhaps it was a bug.

Good submission though! And impressive as a solo contribution too!

Really cool game, i love the mechanic. The biggest flaw is that if you miss just one click and you miss one enemy, there is basically nothing you can do, and you just have to wait a lot of time before you get killed and can restart. I would suggest to put a constant way of killing enemies, like a magic tower shooting one enemy every once in a while, and leave the mass of enemy for the traps to kill. Overall really cool game!

sorry, but a mechanic like that is introduced after Phase 1. thanks for trying the game!

A phenomenal take on the tower defense genre, with a beautiful colour palette over crisp pixel art and appropriate 8-bit sounds / music.

Had an initial speedbump learning the game / controls, but once I was able to figure out which on-screen elements were interactable, I was better able to narrow down the controls and begin building.

The level designs of each wave are very well-thought out and present a high, but not insurmountable, challenge. The enemy types are creative, and one must balance swift-thinking with speed-building in order to survive the threats to the damsel.

The narrative / cinematic sequences between each phase add to the polished quality of the game. I know they tried to re-launch the Atari a few years ago, but this is the type of "throwback aesthetic meets modern game design" type of game those guys should've found and licensed. Incredible entry by this solo developer.

(Also, despite being an all-time horrible gamer, proud to say I won!)

thank you so much! a few unnoticed bugs made the game, funnily enough, way harder than it should be, so i didn't think anyone could even beat it. it brings me so much joy and relief to see someone actually beat the game; you have NO idea. thank you so much!!!

Nice soundtrack
Interesting mechanic, A bit too hard for me.

Developer

thanks for trying nonetheless!

I like the idea. Kind of like Donkey Kong x Orcs Must Die.

I assume it wasn't supposed to start me on wave 3 with no $. Beat wave 3 but I was left with $2 and one spike trap. Would've liked to see some of the other traps in action.

Developer

never noticed that! must be a bug. thanks for playing!

Great retro styled game, like a few others have said some more instructions would be good to get started but once I'd worked it out it worked well

I liked this. I had trouble figuring out how to play at first but after that controlling the timing and crushing the creeps was a lot of fun. I liked the aesthetic. With the pixel snapping, color limitations and sound design, it really felt authentic

Developer

thank you so much!

it was hard to figure out how to play at first but once i got the hang of it, it was pretty fun!

I like the idea and the retro aesthetics!  I had a hard time figuring out how to play actually... I think some tooltips, esp on the tool that deletes traps would go a long way.  I kept deleting them and wondering why they weren't working

thanks for the feedback!

Cool game! Very challenging, but enticing nonetheless. Great work!

Very cool concept and twist on the tower defence genre. Love the retro PC aesthetic and with the music it has a slightly haunting, sinister feel.

I will say the game over music caught me off guard and felt rather out of place.

Very fun, cool game!

Developer

i was running out of time when it came to the music in those areas, so i just picked whatever 8-bit piece i found. i'll take note of little things like these in the future, especially for such a style-heavy game. thanks for playing!

loved the aesthetic, the game was pretty fun once i got the hang of it! sfx were a little too loud and piercing for me, especially the sound when you kill a "knight"

Developer(+1)

apologies for that; sound mixing issues is a common complaint i receive. this mostly comes from me making audio without headphones on, so nothing really sounds too loud for me. will be considering headphone users in the future. thanks for playing!

I really like the concept and this style of game, had fun playing it! The visuals and sfx were great too.

Developer

thank you!

great visuals and pixel art, music is fitting and very colorful. the princess is really cute too! i loved the concept of having to defend against the knights, and the game played well up until the end of the third wave. i cleared all the knights and the game would not progress to the next wave. this could be bc i was playing on the web version though, either way great work!

🥲 that bug never appeared in my playtesting. thanks so much for trying the game!

oh, i've found the bug and have fixed it. thanks for pointing it out!
