this is a really cool idea and realization!! Loved it, I hoped there was more to play sincerely. Gooood job!
A little bit of sound would go a long way, and it was maybe a bit unintuitive that you can only stand on your shadow copies if they're dead? That's all I've got for feedback, really - it is a short and simple game, but implemented pretty well.
Got a little frustrated on the last level when my reflections started getting desynced based on what other reflections did. From the comments I gather that was intentional (I didn't realize a reflection reaching the end would count wonder if that solution would have been easier), I'd be interested to see if you can make a puzzle that requires it. Otherwise, these puzzles were great and I had a good time. Well done!
Thanks for playing! I had a bunch of ideas that would have required having the inputs be recorded, but for these levels I probably should have only had positions and animations recorded to alleviate the desyncing issues.
Cool that your entry is 2 player local multiplayer, I'll give it a try once I have someone irl to play it with :D
Very Clever, the whole idea reminds me of the shadow clones from Mario galaxy except these ones don't hurt you. Love the broadness and creativity with the different uses for the reflections all of gets explained very quickly in the first two levels alone.
From what I can tell this is your first game and it's impressive, would love to see this concept expanded upon I feel like there's a lot of interesting ways you could take this idea.
Keep up the awesome work, hope to see another entry from you in the future!
Thanks! This was indeed my first game jam entry 😄 I do have a bunch of unfinished games gathering dust, so more of a first published game rather than first game 😁
All of the positive comments make me want to continue this project further. I had a bunch of ideas I didn't have time to develop before jam ended.
Really enjoyed your game as well!
Nice game! I had a similar idea at the beginning of the jam, with some sort of Lemmings-style type of game ( "Memento Mori" is a perfect wildcard for that ) but then we took a totally different way.
Good idea also to put the level select since there is no "hard reset" of a level, in one level I just had too many clones active to be able to solve the level otherwise. Also I don't know if it is intended or not, but it made me laugh (therefore it was positive for me) that the clones did not always do the same stuff that the player did (I had one jump off a platform on which I jumped), I think it is tied to the fact that you probably register the input and maybe the framerate changes, instead of registering the positions of the clones, but the consequences were really funnier than expected.
It's a pity that the game lacks audio, but that is completely understandable due to time constraints, I have been there too, not enough time during these jams and the audio is always the last thing that anyone put in the game, so totally and absolutely understandable.
Really good and solid submission, well done!
Thanks for the kind words! There actually is a way to hard-reset through the pause menu without going to level select (Restart Level), but I could have communicated it better to the player.
Indeed only the inputs are registered, and frame rate can break it. I'm surprised it works as well as it does :D Another thing that can "break" it is if the level changes somehow, like a box is pushed in a clones way.
Definitely reserving time for sounds and juice in the next jam. I had a busy week so didn't have a lot of time to develop.
Oh don't talk to me about frame rate that breaks, I was busy all Sunday trying to prevent frame drops and I also broke the web version when I tried to use Rapier to improve them (and thus I dropped it in favour of the default engine for the web version, while the desktop ones kept it and thus have a slightly different behaviour for some collisions).
Great entry! It reminds me a lot of the playback mechanic from The Talos Principle. The level design was really nice, as it gradually introduced new uses for your playbacks throughout. Enjoyed it a lot :)
This is a really unique concept! I feel like if explored further this could become something amazing. Good job!
Excellent work! That last one really got chaotic and I had to reset so I'm thankful you put in the level select. In case you didn't know about tools like https://sfbgames.itch.io/chiptone to make sfx quickly, it's real great for jams, esp with pixel art style. I can easily see myself playing a lot more of this.
Thanks for the link, I'll check it out! Would have really liked to add sounds and music but couldn't in the end due to limited time (an some bad time management from my part).
Loved your game btw, one of my favorites of the jam!
Nice concept for a platformer game! Controls are very smooth. I keep instinctively pressing R to Restart Level when the reflections begin clogging up my screen instead of going to the menu to do that haha. I think it would be better if the players are aware they can do this.
Thanks for playing and for the feedback! :) It's sometimes really hard to put yourself in the players shoes when developing, so I totally forgot to introduce the "restart entire level" in the pause menu
Wow! That was super well done! I wanna play more!! A little bit chaotic and pretty fun with the past reflections running around and interacting with the blocks on the last level! Super cool that a reflection can win the level for you. :)
Well done!
Haha, finishing the level with a reflection was intentional but carrying the boxes on top of the character was totally not intended :D
I really like your game. Love the mechanic and how quickly to learn it but still have to think about the puzzles.
Fantastic!
Great submission! Very cool mechanic that leads to very interesting puzzles. I especially liked the beginning of the game, leaving me confused about how to proceed before being introduced to the main mechanic of the game :) The art is also very charming and fitting.
Only wish it had more levels, I wanna keep going :D
I loved the idea and how you discover the game, what wonderful level design!
It was funny discovering your game thanks to "Richard Oz" that played our game and said it shared some similitudes, but i have no regrets, your game is a lot of fun and very cute, very good job ! 👍
Awesome! This game has a lot of potential! You have to think about the moves you are going to make and at the same time the moves you are going to make next. I would have liked to play a few more levels.
It shares the same thinking mechanics as another submission Aftermath and it was interesting to play both.
What started as confusion, grew to enjoyment very quickly in your game! I really enjoyed trying to coordinate myself with my previous 'reflections'!
I think the intro was great, communicates the gameplay very quickly for the future levels! I will say I wish there was some music or sound effects. There's also a small bug at the end where the pause menu is inaccessible by the 'thank you for playing'. Overall I really enjoyed your entry :D
Thank you so much for the feedback, glad you enjoyed it! I agree that sounds would have been nice. Also wish I had time to add a final level that would have combined all of the previous puzzles, but that's just how these jams go with the limited time :D
