  • This is a really great entry! I really loved the opening sequence, and combining the swords together is a great mechanic. It both adds a lot of complexity mechanically, and is also just fun to collect them and make swords that look cool. I think that part of the game is really really solid. As for the battling mechanic, I felt that there wasn't a lot of depth to thinking through which battles I took or even the understanding of what was going on. It seemed like there was initiative, speed and damage, but mostly I didn't have to think too much about it. I got by quite easily by just picking/buying the coolest looking sword and fighting the hardest looking enemy. A good reference might be Overbold from UFO50. In that game you have to challenge more enemies to earn more money, if you dont take hard enough fights you'll fall behind the difficulty curve and die. If you take too hard of fights, you also die. Could be an interesting mechanic to take inspiration from. Overall I thought the entry was really really good. Very original idea that has a ton of potential, if the combat were tuned up a bit I think the game could turn out really really fun. Nice work!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
This is a strategic autobattler where you build an army of blades to fight other blades. You can combo hilts, blades and effects from any of the blades with any other of the blades.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
You are a sentient sword, you assemble an army of fellow sentient swords to fight.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
The combo system ( there's 14000 possible party combo's )

The dynamic autosaving, you keep your stuff when refreshing.

This game was made without the use of a game engine, so just basic web stuff.

Great game, right up my alley. I think most others have already said what needed to be said about tooltips and putting you right into battles after selecting a quest. I'd play a full release for days and days for sure.

Thankyou so much for playing our game! ♥

This is great! I can tell you really put a ton of work into this. I can see a lot of potential here. All the sword sprites and magic effects are beautiful and it's really fun collecting them all. I can see myself having this up all day on another monitor.

I think there might need to be a little more clarity with what the sword are doing in combat. I think some floating damage numbers would be a great addition. It's also not super clear what all the different status effects do, but I know all that can be made clear eventually.

For the UI, it feels like just a smidge too much clicking around between rounds. I think some of the UI might be able to be combined. Like, you could probably combine the quest board and battle button. Just maybe include a battle button at the bottom of that screen, or even just go straight into battle when you accept a quest. I also feel like the smith and army screen could be one screen. You could default to the army screen and just have a little smithy button in the bottom corner of each sword panel to bring up the upgrade screen for it.

I really like this one, well done!

Developer(+2)

Thankyou so much for playing! Damage numbers seems like a great idea! We will definately think about adding something like that to the game after the jam is over! Our wonderful dev made this Wiki for people to use outside the game while playing, incase you wanted to have a look there! Really appreciate your feedback we shall definitely try to add some of the suggestions that have been made so far! ♥

Developer(+2)

Thanks for the feedback on the UI, all seem very doable changes that wont break flow elsewhere. :)

Glad you enjoyed playing too :D

By far the game i played the longest out of the submissions! It was super fun, and satisfying to process the combinations. the visual effects were great, i didnt even know what the shiny things were doing, but you bet i had them on all of my swords! I also loved the baguette, very cute and funny. The sound fx were satsifying.

I wish i could have seen stats for everything all the time. I want to min max the combinations and i felt like i was guessing at times. I also thought the difficulty ramp was too slow. maybe i just got really lucky on rolls, but I steamrolled every fight, it wasnt even close.

great submission and I enjoyed myself a lot :D

Developer

Thankyou so much for playing our game! I loved making the shiny effects so I am really happy to hear they are being put to good use! Our wonderful dev did make us a Wiki but hopefully we can add the stats more clearly to the game! ♥

Submitted(+1)

The game was easy to understand pretty quickly and I played it for a while trying to upgrade my army. The baguette sword was amazing! I also really enjoyed the background music. Thought this was a super well designed game overall. Great Work!

My only improvement is that it would be nice to see what the quests are without having to click on each of them.

Developer(+1)

Thankyou so much for playing and providing feedback! Bread ftw! ♥

Vibey game,  spent half an hour with it trying to get best army.
Loved art and music, about gameplay - well, too sad you can't get info about upgrades/complete sword while assembling army/smithing - so, it's hard to make informed decisions.

Also, I see you've made a lot of cool effects, but currently it's hard to take advantage of them - bigger damage/health seems to always win.

Developer

Thankyou so much for playing! Here is a sword Wiki made by our amazing dev to help you make the strongest decisions! Thankyou so much for your feedback! ♥

Submitted(+1)

Quite addicting. Loved everything sound design, artwork, and gameplay. This would be better if I could see the stats of my currents swords while in the main menu. Otherwise this game is fantastic.

Developer

Our wonderful dev made a Wiki with all the sword stats but we should probably try and add that in the game somehow! Thankyou so much for playing! May I ask what your favorite sword is?

Submitted(+1)

I'm a fan of the amethyst blades with the magical sparkles. Love the colors on those blades

Submitted(+1)

I don't have too much to feedback in this game because I ultimately accidently spent about two hours playing. Lol. I would love to see this as a full game release on steam. I love all the combos I could do as well as fighting like katanas in baguettes. Ha ha. The only thing I can think of is that I would like to be able to inspect my swords at least in the army section and it took me a bit to figure out why I couldn't sell certain items or buy more hilts or swords. Still slightly unclear but I kept trucking on and had so much fun. Great job ya'll.

Developer(+1)

Our wonderful dev made a last minute Wiki for more info, although we agree we should try to add it to the game somehow! I am really happy to hearthat you spent so much time playing! May i ask what your favorite sword/combo/army was?

Submitted(+1)

Oh nice! I'm gonna have to look at the Wiki! My favorite hilt / blade combo was the obsidian hilt and the crystal blade for nothing but it looks so goood. Though the obsidian blade with katana hilt is fun af.

Submitted(+1)

Really enjoyed the game! The art is lovely and I love that I can always return to the game without worrying about my process. Great work! <3 Love it! Lands directly in my collection

Thanks for playing! <3

Solid base for absolutely amazing game. congrats for geting all this done in 2 weeks. Only notes I have is that its just based on dice roll. it would be nice if swords have 1-2 abilities. first few games  was just loosing and after first win I bought upgrade and never lost again. intro was amazing it made me laugh. Main menu looks really nice.  I really enjoyed it.

Developer(+1)

Thankyou so much for playing! We all love a good isekai intro ♥

Developer

With the crunch balancing out all the parts & quest generation was a bit harsh, but we'll see if we can update it.

Thanks for playing & glad you enjoyed it! :P

Submitted(+2)

Love the game, love the look, love the vibes of the mix and matching of weapons. The art and UI elements are super nice looking! For quality of life, if the quest just sets what the battle is going to be, I'd say it would be nice to just have that be a single input, I pick the quest and it takes me on it, felt a little clunky to navigate otherwise. I'd also wish I could see the stats of the blades in more places so I can have better decision making of building a team or smithing, but honestly, this is a dope game, I'll be spending a lot more time playing

Developer(+2)

Our wonderful dev made a Wiki for it but we should really try to get it going in the game too thankyou so much for playing and providing feedback! ♥

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

The ability to instantly battle from the quest menu has been requested quite a few times and we updated it ready for the post jam update. :P

I can't wait to put hours into the post jam version!!!

I enjoyed playing this one a lot. Great aesthetic, art and music both complement each other very well. Satisfying to gradually build up your sword army and mix and match sword parts. Also loved the little bobbing animation of your swords in the background.

Also well done for getting a good Save System working in the Jam time. I know they can be fiddly.

For improvements, I'd say the UI needs tweaking up a bit/some more consistency. I noticed that only some screens had exit buttons, and exit buttons were inconsistent in their style. Also, its quite hard to actually find the Sword parts stats, I could only see them in the Shop and combat.

The improvements are just minor points though. Fun game, congratulations!

Developer(+2)

Thanks for playing,

the inconsistencies is what happens if you have 2 devs crunching at 6am last day XD.

We ran out of time to properly show stats everywhere sadly, we did make a spreadsheet post uploading with the stats of everything.

Glad you liked it!

Developer(+2)

Thankyou so much for playing and giving us feedback on improvements !

A really nice and smooth game. Didn't find anything awkward at all. Loved the credits screen and the art. The game as a whole is made really complementing each and everything (sound, art, idea). Interesting take on the theme and definitely worth playing.
The only thing I didn't understand if it was my local issue or the game, the credits title was a bit off screen and not fitting everything.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

> The credits title was a bit off screen and not fitting everything.

Itch.io injected a bit of CSS into our iframe causing that to happen ;-;

If you open the iframe url directly it works flawlessly.

Luckily still all remains readable, just a shame it got nudged xd

Developer(+2)

Thankyou so much for playing! Ohno our credits are trying to run away D:

Submitted(+2)

The theme fits so well in this game, i really liked it, played for an hour

Thankyou for playing! Mind telling(or showing) us your favorite sword?

Submitted(+2)

These are my favorite, the 3rd would be better if I had a better handle

Developer(+1)

oops did itch io eat the image?

Submitted (1 edit) (+2)

i think so lol

Developer(+2)

Nice collection haha! Itch be like that sometimes!!

Submitted(+2)

This was a lovely lil' entry! The variety of sword parts made it really fun to check out the shop, and mixing and matching them made each sword feel unique! I didn't notice that it was my own crystal hilts distracting my swords for a few too many battles, but I got them replaced eventually.
Good job everyone on the team!

Developer(+2)

Lil' trivia there's 2800 combo's to be made per sword, making it ~14k possible team combo's.

Thanks for Playing!

Developer(+1)

I'm really happy to hear you enjoyed the many sword types! which was your favorite?

Submitted(+2)

I really like this one. Has an old school Flash game feel to it with the surprising amount of polish on sword variations.

Developer(+1)

Hey thankyou so much for playing! I hoped everyone got to make their little sword army to be personalised as their own little unique set!

Submitted(+2)

love all the different swords :D
