  • I really enjoyed the game! I enjoyed the platformer style and it reminded me of a few other games (I can't remember the name's off the top of my head.) The artstyle was great and the soundtrack fit the game well. The star collecting and the timer made me love the game with my competitive side. It was great and very fun to play!!

Summarise your game!
TERA is a physics-based platformer where you play as a legendary sword. Flip, bounce, and swing through a mystical castle, mastering precision and momentum to overcome challenges and reclaim your purpose.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
In this game, the player embodies a legendary sword, relying on precise flips, bounces, and swings to traverse a treacherous castle, fully embracing the physicality of being a weapon. Movement mechanics emphasize the challenge of mastering momentum and trajectory, requiring the player to think like a tool wielded for a purpose rather than a traditional character. The game’s design highlights the idea that true power comes not just from being a weapon, but from how skillfully one learns to control and adapt to its limitations.

I love the concept of this game! The gameplay is a fun and challenging experience as well. I'm also a fan of the starting screen and leaderboard. There is an issue where when you press the 'r' key while typing in the leaderboard, it restarts the level. Other than that, this is a great game!

First thing I noticed, I loved the little intro sequence, both of the transition of the logo into the screen, as well as the actual intro cutscene. The art is very nice and I like the music too! The variety in sound effects is also really appreciated and really puts you in the shoes of the sword.

I also appreciate the nice touch to make the sword more golden as you progress through the game. A very neat touch!

I did notice a few things that I think might be worth pointing out. The game crashed two times, both times when the sword was stabbing the floor. The music would keep playing, but the game screen would stay frozen and the controls would cease working. For reference, I'm using a regular Google Chrome to play the game.

Considering that this game has many separate levels with time leaderboards for each one, I'd suggest letting players pick any of the levels from the get go, so that they don't have to go through each level again to get to the level they last left off. Alternatively, you could make a system to save progress. Since the crash happened to me twice, I had to start the game from the beginning due to the level select having the levels locked until you beat them.

I'd also suggest making a system to keep the cursor in the middle. Throughout my play session, I had to keep repositioning the cursor to the center of the screen every time I'd go for a new throw, to make sure the throw would be accurate.

Another suggestion is to put the Pause menu to be brought up with 'P' key as well, so that people using fullscreen don't have to exit fullscreen with ESC first before being able to use ESC to pause the game.

Other than that, this game feels quite polished. The UI looks super nice, and the leaderboard system in game is simply awesome. I really like that you're able to see so many scores per stage as well.

The level designs can be quite tricky and devilish as well. This was a nice challenge! I haven't finished it, but I'll do it some other day. I made it to level 9.

Really cool game!

Lovely game! The art is really good, Gameplay wise, our games are cousins, so of course i like it :P
Love shaking on the sword when it sticks, adds a lot of game feel to it, nice detail.
Congrats!

Developer

Thanks a lot! :)

I am amazed by the level of polish on this game! It looks and feels amazing and the art is so enchanting! It really feels like a finished game already. I only had trouble with figuring out the mechanic and getting the hang of moving around, but that's just a skill issue as I was trying to play it with a trackpad. Overall, this is a great game, well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Really glad you liked it! Yeah, playing with a trackpad sounds like a challenge—props to you for sticking with it! Appreciate the kind words!

Nice idea for a tricky platformer! It's very challenging and I like it quite a lot, sticking the sword into walls as a main gimmick with that physics-based movement really makes the game feel unique and fun. Though sometimes it may feel a bit unfair as the strength varies a lot depending on how the sword was placed, and I do fall quite a few times because of this. I guess this is very intended though. The collectable stars are also a nice touch to an otherwise awesome game.

I'd admit after playing for quite some time my hand hurts a bit from constantly clicking and dragging, so I stop at somewhere around level 8, but I am sure it's only able to get better (and harder) from here.

Good game you've made here! Well done!

Developer

Glad you had fun with it! Yeah, the sword physics can be tricky, but that’s part of the challenge. Totally get the hand strain thought. Appreciate you playing and sharing your thoughts! 😊

Love the sword sticking into the stone as a mechanic. Felt intentional and had good strategy. Fun game!

Clink-clank~Thank you :)

Excellent game, it already feels like a finished game. I don't know how to provide feedback for this 🤣 Even on my PC which I played this, I usually have frame rate drops in other jam games but yours is incredibly smooth - so I just wanted to compliment that. I got a few top scores in the early levels so I'm happy about that but I'm sure they'll be overtaken eventually 😂😂Art and music were incredible and fit well together, even the story in the beginning was put together very well. I enjoyed this game very much!

Developer

That's jolly good to hear! Much appreciated  & thanks again for the feedback! ^^

The art is excellent, and there is so much polish with the menus, scoreboard, and sound effects. Great game!

Thank you, much appreciated!

Neat game, great idea with the scoreboards!

Developer

Thank you!

This is a fun getting over it style game! I really like that it's level based instead of one giant level so taking falls isn't such a catastrophic setback. I made it to level 7, but that one was really tough and I couldn't get thru it. I had fun playing this great work!

Developer

Yeah,  after 6 the difficulty rails up a bit too much, was really hard to balance it at that time. Thanks for playing & for the feedback though! ^^

A nice, simple, Getting Over It platformer! Gameplay is very smooth, and it's very easy to understand what you are supposed to do. Flipping around and stabbing into things is very fun! Art and sounds are great! Very satisfying when you are able to land your sword perfectly into the statues hands, haha! Fun game, great work!

Developer

Thank you, much appreciated!^^

I played the game before peeking at the GDD, and I was absolutely right about the inspiration. You nailed the feel of Getting Over It, while not having as much of the frustration that can inspire.

I can't think of anything to say in terms of constructive criticism. Its just really good.

Developer

Thanks! ^^ I only wish we had more time to spice it up a bit with other mechanics

Nice work, I've heard that physics in godot can be a bit janky but you've nailed this. Like the little details like the sword losing rust as you progress.

Developer(+1)

Honestly I heard that 2D physics is very stable and great, however I spent most of my time fixing issues where the sword ended up inside walls :). Thanks for the comment!

Developer(+1)

Honestly I've heard Jolt is from heaven, thanks!

I had fun with this! I like the scoreboard!
I can't type "r" in the scoreboard name, it resets the level and doesn't makes me redo the level.
Got stuck on this level and couldn't move. Also, level 7 is really hard

Developer

Yes, the R button is linked to restart and triggers in the high score table, sorry about that. We got it fixed, but don't want to alter the jam enty :'). Lots of comments from testing and playtests showed that level 7 is the breaking point for most. Thanks for playing!

Extremely polished game! I loved the animation that plays when you complete a level and the sounds the stars make, very satisfying. We had very similar ideas! Gotta love flipping swords!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words. Glad to hear it! :)

Absolutely amazing game, movement feels nice and  adding leaderboards moves it to another level.

Developer

Kind words, thanks for the comment.

I’ve already seen a couple of other games like this, but I really appreciate the general physics and flow of Tera. The animations and sound effects add a lot to the feel of the game and I think it’s a great balance of quirky controls and simplicity. Not too hard, not too easy. Overall extremely well balanced. Great job!

Developer

Thank you! I am glad to hear that, level design took so much testing. :D
