Project Ouroboros's itch.io pageGame's Take on the Theme
The player is an Ouroboros snake, requiring spinning around to eat its own tail to reload its weapons. The snake can also spin into a coiled form to dodge bullets. Additionally, the snake cannot stop moving, which requires frequent 'spinnage'.

I like the idea of anti characters may be a antihero in this case and I'd definitely wanted to see a version of this as a snake who tries to live through the humans. Maybe start the game in the lab while eating up some scientist and get longer tail and somehow find a way to escape the lab to the city where it strives for food and try to live as much as possible even though the humans are trying to attack and capture itself. Good job by the way. :-)
One of the most original games of the Jam. I love the terrifying atmosphere and the mix of futuristic and dystopian concepts. Congratulations for the work. Best of luck in the Jam.
Really great entry! The mechanics feel super fresh and interesting, and the art and music are great! The fact that you continue to move no matter what made it challenging (in a good way), and trying to balance the risk of being a bigger target with needing to be able to reload was a lot of fun. Nice job!
The visuals, ambiance, and tutorial are really well done—congratulations!
I really liked what you brought in terms of gameplay and interpretation of the theme. Unfortunately, I had some trouble with the controls and executing what I wanted (shooting and moving).
Aside from that, I had fun, which is the most important thing. Once again, great job!
I really liked your implementation of the spin theme! The gameplay is very clever and I really enjoyed how fair the boss attack patterns were! I felt that it was a little too easy to easy my own tail by accident when i'm trying to gather ammo, which made it hard to kill the boss. Other than that, nice work! It's a shame that there was only one boss, because I had fun with this one :>
this is a really cool game, no idea how to reload or get a new gun? so i couldnt make it very far into the first boss, but y'know, its a good concept
This game is super visually pleasing and I really enjoyed your take on the idea of ouroboros! Definitely want to see more of this!
I liked what the game looked like. It had good art and music, I did not see a good use of theme with it thoug, I know you "spin" around to eat your tail for ammo but it is not the greatest. It would be nice if you could play and rate my game too!

Finally the Snake game 2. Game was fun and controls are well made. I liked the color palette of the game. Some
Wow, very cool and unique idea! I liked the pixel arts and level, very nice details and lighting, and interesting information on the wall too. The snake movement is very smooth, but I think it is quite difficult to move and shoot with mouse at the same time, maybe it will be better to move with directional keys. Well done!
Omg, Favorite game I've played in the JAM until now, I really loved your pixel art, the light effects in the areas, the colors, it's fantastic, congratulations. The idea of how you present the mechanics with a small level is excellent. The mechanic of eating things and doing a spin always feels and shooting the weapons always feels fun. Also, I really like the theme of the ouroboros, it has great mysteries behind, and the logo of your game looks amazing.
Greetings and congratulations!
The art in this game is fantastic! Took me a while to get used to moving with the mouse (I kept pressing WASD even though they did nothing XD), but once I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed the mechanics. There might need to be some balancing that needs to be done in terms of reloading - as a bad player, I sometimes found myself out of bullets and had no way to recharge because there was nothing around to eat and I was already too short :'). That said, it was an enjoyable experience, and a very unique take on the theme. Well done!
Absolutely one of the coolest implementations of the theme!! The game feels incredibly polished and well-thought-out, which is impressive. This is definitely a game worth developing further after the jam—it looks and plays amazingly!! Excellent work!!
i cant belive there was one boss only :c , good concept keep it going althought reloading is hard and some times leaves you without fighting abillity when your tail is too short
I really liked the game art and the concept is really solid. I played for quite a while until I finally beat the boss. I found it difficult and a bit frustrating at times, mainly because there were moments where there wasn’t much to do except wait for food to spawn. I even reset multiple times just to try a no-hit run until I ran out of segments.
I think the reload mechanic is the biggest aspect that needs adjusting for the game to feel better. The concept of reloading and the segmented body is great, especially the idea that taking damage doesn’t damage you but instead removes a segment due to the player’s large hurtbox. However, the reload mechanic really slowed down the gameplay and disrupted the flow. It felt overly punishing and frustrating to get hit, and it also took away from the bullet hell aspect about fluid and fast-paced action. Also, the player’s hurtbox doesn’t quite match the typical bullet hell standard of being small and precise for dodging, but I think you handled that aspect well in your design. That said, I really enjoyed the game and was actually a bit sad that there was only one boss. The has a lot of potential, i liked it, good work!
Thanks a lot, this feedback is very helpful! I really wanted to add more bosses but you know how game jams tend to go :D I will definitely be rethinking the reload mechanic as I agree with what you said. Might just do a classic reload, and use the tail-eating mechanic for something else that is also integral to the combat, but not so punishing if you cannot do it. In terms of bullet hell gameplay, it was quite tough figuring out how to make it work, as being a snake with a long body does not seem like something that could work, considering you have no control of your body. The dodge coil I implemented works quite well, but making some bullet patterns specifically designed to make use of the way the snake moves should be good as well. Either way, thanks for playing again!
Takes a bit to get the hang of it but it's really cool! The concept of your own tail being your ammo reserve and needing to eat it to reload is badass, and it adds an interesting element where the more resources you have the harder it is to dodge attacks.
The fight was a good challenge, I like the snake inspired hazards that spawn in later in the fight, and it was satisfying to beat it after a couple tries. It was a bit annoying though when you run out of ammo and extra tail, so you either have to wait for the boss to drop some purple or die on purpose.
Vibes are great, love the abandoned facility aesthetic, and the humor was a nice touch. Overall I had a good time playing it :)
Thanks a lot for playing! This feedback is much appreciated. I like the concept of eating the tail, but I am not sure reloading is the right way to go about it, as it leaves problems like you described, where you can't do much but wait. Will have to sit down and do a proper prototyping and design session to come up with a better direction to take it in.
I love the vibes, something about this game feels inspired by the game Carrion (in a good way!). I love how the snake-y movement lends itself to circling around the boss and I appreciated that one of the boss's attacks is to shoot out a bunch of projectiles in a circle.
My main complaint is it feels near impossible to eat your own body to reload the weapon. I gave the boss a few tries but I consistently was unable to reload my weapon.
Lots of potential, looking forward to seeing a future version of this!
Thanks for the feedback! I wonder, were you holding down right click? The way to do it is to hold it and approach a snake segment. When close enough, it will get highlighted white and the time slows down. Then you can let go and the snake bites down.
Another reason could be you were too small. It is not in the tutorial unfortunately, but three body segments act as your core. You cannot eat them or lose them, when hit you lose health. Any extra segments on top of that you can eat and will get destroyed instead of health when you are hit.
Thanks a lot for giving it a go anyway!
