I love the idea of finding recipes and combining resources to craft items against a powerful boss.

Crafting was very unintuitive though, I don't think I've seen a game where you need to drop the items on the ground in order to craft. I died twice before I found out how it worked. Using the scroll wheel was also very slow, would've preferred another method of choosing the items.

One thing to help the player find their ground would be to only start the boss-arrival timer when the player manages to craft something for the first time.

The vibe and setting is good though. The art is simple, but manages to convey the intended, oppressive mood.

such a great game! the graphics, gameplay, and other categories are all satisfied!
i just think the recipe should have existed in the players ui instead of him finding it because a player could just go in another direction and not find out that there is a tutorial(dont ask how i found out about this XD)
and for my screen size, the inventory that i see in the pictures of this game wasnt appearing as if the whole camera was a bit zoomed in and i dont know why...
aside from that, this game really needs more ratings! its pretty well polished!

Developer

Good news! I managed to (or should have) fixed the scrolling and the automatic closing in the opening scene!

The game reminds me a bit of Don't Starve. Unfortunately I quickly found myself lost and especially the camera movement when the character moves hurts my eyes ^^' So I didn't persevere any longer to defeat the boss.

Bravo for this entry despite everything! The audio is pleasant, the graphics are great and the whole thing is promising!

Hey, so I tried to play this quite a few times because it looks really cool and I wanted to try to beat the boss! However in every attempt, I was unable to scroll through my backpack or craft or anything. It's a shame because the art is so great, the pickaxe is fun, you clearly put i  a lot of thought and effort, even the signs can be chopped (I love that). If you have time, the game jam rules allow you to fix game-breaking bugs, and a game this promising deserves to be played. I would love to try it again with the worst of the bugs gone!

Sure thing!

The game looks cool, but I can't play it without a web version. : /

There's a lot of really cool ideas and I wanted to see more. Unfortunately, I kept running into an issue where the game stopped reading my mouse inputs or something? I could scroll, throw, or drop anything. The graphics really worked for me, though.

Thanks for sharing with my stream! Here's the VOD of your game: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2254453937?t=02h56m06s

I do want to apologize for going on a completely unhinged tangent after playing your game before leaving feedback, but I did say a few things afterwards if you're wondering. Here's the timestamp for that: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2254453937?t=03h28m04s

Great work!

I'm not sure if its because my screen resolution isn't correct for the game, but unfortunately I wasn't really able to do much aside from moving around and collecting materials and dying to the boss. I really liked the atmosphere that the art and atmosphere created, and I think the theme of the jam was really well executed. I also really enjoyed the clever use of the signs for instructions and storytelling.

Cheers!

Hee-ho. Very cute game. Cool gameplay. Thanks for nice experience

Really cool game! Liked the attempt to visually depict the instructions. Really loved the giant cloud that comes and you have to kill it, that's really awesome!

The thing is though, somehow, I didn't get how to play it, even with the visual depictions of what to do and the controls on the itch.io page. There's something about a recipe, but nothing ever shows up in it.

Even the pickaxe thing, I figured out that you should pick it up, but I actually think even this might be better to make more obvious somehow just in case, I think currently it's something that might be easy to miss as well.

The problem is I think you're supposed to craft the stuff together like the wood and the rocks. I can chop the trees and get a bunch of wood, but not sure what to do with it. Only thing I can do is throw rocks at the boss by sellecting with scroll wheel and then left clicking. Or just dropping it byusing right click.

Also, there's some minor bugs that could be cleaned up, such as that the game crashes, sometimes as manytimes as twice in a row, if you exit the game (in any way, whether by going down and leaving in the beginning, or otherwise) and then try to launch it again. That might discourage some players from playing the game again, but it's not game breaking enough in my opinion to warrant any update or fix during the jam, so it could be considered for after the jam.

Other than the above I really liked the visuals a lot, the area is very large and the game is pretty unique and fun, nice job on it! I might consider to play it again with some clarification about how you're supposedto play this game.

I am not too sure exactly why it wasn't clear to me or what to do about it to improve it, I'll see if I have any idea why that might be after some clarification.

Game is fun, graphics and animations are well made, sounds fit, and storm phase was real fun, and I survived, for a while at least :D

Here is my game if anyone wants to try

suggestion:

tutorial can be enhanced, I didn't know how to use the sickle until I found out myself by pressing keys on my keyboard.

Hi, unfortunately I can't fully evaluate the game because the interface has shifted (1366x768) and there was a case of crashing out of the game after death. But I like the art style, the game is clear and quite enjoyable, so great job!

Submitted

So I love the aesthetic of the game but I have a problem where it doesn't seem to let me throw nor put down items and after the boss kills me the game won't start up again.. I don't know if I misunderstood something and I'd love to actually try it but it just won't let me.

Developer

Thanks for pointing those out. I always knew those were issues, but they were pretty random when I tested them out. Sometimes, they don't occur. Other times, they occur throughout a run. I'll try to fix these issues in the future, but it won't be easy to pin down on the Unity Editor.

Submitted

I get that a lot. I've made my submission in unity as well and I cannot stress enough how irritating it is to try to find bugs in unity. Compilation takes forever so single line changes are super frustrating and stuff like infinite while loops after big changes are impossible to find because the whole editor freezes and simply doesn't tell you where it froze.

Submitted

I liked the resource gathering and crafting aspect of the game but after fighting the big eye the game keeps crashing but other than that i really liked the game!

I love this type of hand-drawn game style so much, gives me the Don't starves vibe. The character's design is gorgeous. Great idea and very good job guys !

All around good but I think having it run in a browser would've made it more accessible.

Developer (1 edit)

Definitely would have, especially with it being just session runs.
Unfortunately, when I tried to compile the game in 960 x 540 for WEBGL, the game often didn't run from the start screen, and the performance dropped through the floor despite being fine on the unity editor. Unless you have some recommendations on properly making WEBGL builds, I feel like I'll play it safe with Windows builds for playtesting.

This game is phenomenal! The innovative design and captivating gameplay make it a real delight. It’s clear that the team invested a lot of creativity and effort into making it shine. Fantastic work—truly impressive!

Developer(+1)

Actually, there wasn't any team. I joined this jam myself.

Hello! Your game is addictive with its pleasant atmosphere and sound. A little hard to navigate, but overall very good. I also liked the art and the idea itself is interesting. Good job!

Hello :),

i love the style of the game.
Music and the boss were fitting well and the boss moveset was definetly cool.

From what i've got you have to drop items in order to craft the tnt to beat the monster:

  • I tryed the game 6-7 times and i was able to get the recipe for TNT like 2 'cause i was throwing it with LMB (left click).
Probably adding it directly to the recipe tab when you pick it up would be the right call.
  • And even if i had the recipe I had to drop down 2 rocks and one wood to craft but when you drop an item you immediately pick it up again.
A further throw may solve the problem.
  • Tryed to pickup the tnt from nearby buildings but with lmb to throw it seems like you hurt  yourself but i may be wrong.

Overall i liked your game, I would gladly try it again once the jam voting is over with these fixes.

Keep up the good work.

I think you have an interesting idea! I really loved the atmosphere. I couldn't really figure out how to progress, so I think some directions for the player would be helpful.

Developer

Apologies for the initially rough submission. I just fixed some issues that came up just when trying to submit this project before 3am. Saturday.
