Very nice! I really like the retro graphics and the variety this game offers. Even though I didn't manage to finish all the levels, I had fun! I also saw that you implemented a rhythm game!

Good job!

Thank you for playing and the comment!

Wow, this was really difficult. I didn't beat the final level, but the Pico-8 atmosphere looks cool and the gameplay was well done and addictive. I like the variety of gameplay styles and liked the fresh interpretation of the scale theme in the forest one. Graphics and music were cool too! and props for making a rythm game, I know for a fact they're not as easy to make as it could seem. Great work!

Developer

Thank you for playing! Yeah, it was harder than I thought it would be to try and line up those arrows on the AIR level....perhaps in an update after the Jam I can make that work just a bit more smooth.

Hey, nice game! I liked both the variety of games as well as the art.  Pico-8 has a really nice charm that I felt fit really well the arcade like gameplay of the game.

I only have a couple of point of criticism:
- I felt like the fire level was way too punishing / difficult compared to the rest of the levels. Maybe instead of resetting the player back to 0, it could deduct 1 point from their counter to make it a bit easier.
- I really liked what you did in the air stage. The traditional DDR gameplay is always quite fun. I will say that, especially on the first slower track, the audio & gameplay got out of sync the longer the track went on. I do know, however, that making a synchronization system in a game like this may be a bit beyond scope for what you were going for, so no biggie!

All in all, a charming game that adhered to the theme well. Good job!

Developer

Thank you for playing!  I plan to re-read the comments after the jam and potentially fix some things as an update, As such, your criticism won't go forgotten and I agree with both points to some degree.  Thanks again.

The evolution of Snake such an entertaining take on a simple idea. Very fun, honestly. Good job! ^^

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed it.

Some parts were too easy and others were too hard. I could not finish the game is there an ending?

Developer

I understand, sorry about that difficulty balancing. I'll be fixing that after the jam. Yes there's a final level that's the 4 levels even more difficult and then a final message. Thank you for trying it out.

I liked the spin on the good ol’ snake game for Fire and Water. I did think they were a little punishing at first but I eventually got used to them and got through them.

I don’t think I quite understood the Earth one so much, I just ended up touching the stone in ascending order of numbers, and got through it.

Air starts out real chill. I thought it was a tad bit slow but then I ate my words on the third part of it. I could not get through it, it was so fast and difficult!

So, the difficulty balancing could be tweaked a bit, but the game is really well made, has some cool vibes, and I wished I could have seen the ending.

Great job!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! Yeah the difficulty didn't get balanced as much as I wanted. The earth level works like a balance scale. First weight picked up goes to left, next is right, then left, etc. Success is a balanced scale as indicated in the score area in the top of the UI. Thanks again for playing.

Fun Fire and water are very hard. Love the retro Gameboy vibe.

I liked it a lot. Started off as a cosy spinoff to snake and then some other gamemodes came in. I think the spawning for the fire and fish needs to be changed a bit so you have a grace period when you spawn. Sometimes I died and died ímmediately after because the obstacles spawned so close.

The earth level was cool, didnt understand it first. Thought you had made it wrong because there was not an even amount of stones hehe.

Couldn't finish the air level but I think that was a skill issue.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! Yeah a couple have brought up a grace period. In the final level I implemented a method where the snake doesn't move at first and you can't get hit until you do but I didn't have time to mimic that in the others.

The air one got a bit hardcore at the end hehehe, but overall very entertaining game.

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'll be making updates after the jam to make it a little less "hardcore" in certain spots, 🙂.

I love Pico8 games and style, the theme is a little weak, but i loved the first 3 worlds/challenges but the Air one is just not fun, the hit detection on the notes isn't always on point. But it was fun to play the game as a snake

Developer

Thank you for the comments and for giving it a go! Glad you enjoyed 3/4 of the levels, at least.

So, I don't get the theme, and it's unfortunate because the game looks beautiful (I love that old school style)

Developer

Thank you for playing. I won't force my thinking on the theme "scale" for anyone so I appreciate your feedback that it didn't come through for you there.

I just realised snake / scale x)
lol my bad

Rate no. 11

The good stuff:
- The snake movement is fluid
- I liked the level select screen

The stuff to improve:
- The hitboxes of "enemies" are way too big
- The player is way too big and makes the game unnecessarily hard
- The game has nothing to do with the theme. Creating a snake clone and then replacing the apple with scales is just bad, you can do better than that.
- In the first level, sometimes the scales counted twice
- You can spawn and immediately die. You can easily fix that by not spawning any "enemies" for a few seconds on spawn.

There isn't much more to talk about, it's a really simple game with a couple of issues.

Developer (1 edit)

Appreciate the feedback. Thank you for trying it out. If you had tried earth it's got a balancing math game that's more themed. I tried to implement scale multiple ways but perhaps it didn't come through as hoped.

Submitted(+1)

Damn, that was difficult! Maybe I'm wrong, but does the speed of the snake increase when it gets bigger? Anyway, I love the game. Well done!

Developer

Speed does increase, yes. I intend to have a difficulty trigger feature added after the jam but didn't have time before. Thank you for spending the time trying my game and the comments! Glad you enjoy.

The game turned out to be harder than I expected xD. I liked the chapter selection mechanic. Well done!

pico-8 <3 very nice idea how to interpret scale in different forms. also shows how well thought your approach was since all the different levels have different characteristics. well done!

Developer

Thank you for the review! Glad you enjoyed it. I am only just learning games and Pico-8 just seemed like a nice playpen.

Simple but fun game. Really difficult I'm surprised I was able to beat the fire level. Nice work

Developer

Thank you! Yeah the levels generating the way they do can be a bit challenging. The water level having different velocity and direction each reset is what usually keeps me occupied and I made it, lol.

Neat little puzzle game; really liked the weighted scale level.

Developer

Thank you! I enjoy that puzzle, too. Was interesting trying to come up with the right way to have the weights add to each side. Kept having the idea of pushing them into place in my mind but thought they'd get hard to move around and eventually landed on what's there.

I really like it! Overall neat and polished game, the concept is nice and on point. I also love the artstyle :)

Thank you for the review. Happy you enjoyed it!
