Nicely executed little puzzle game, with super satisfying implementation of sound and visual effects!

Great game! Just passed the first level after about 5 tries and ended up getting stuck later on. Great re-imagining of the "bubble popping" genre and love the Captain Nemo story inclusion. If you make this into a longer game, my only suggestion would be to ramp up the difficulty curve a bit; make the first few levels really easy so the player learns the mechanics and then add difficulty. But yeah, great job!

Submitted(+1)

This was really fun, I like the way the difficulty ramps up, I made it to level 8!

Hearing that the Nautilus was flattened reminds me of a cartoon character getting run over by a steam roller :)

A little bit difficult and sometimes RNG based but a nice game with a good story to go with it.

Fun little game, congratulations! It could be a little more intuitive for the player. At first, I did not notice the notes on the right about the colors and their abilities.

I freaking love this, but I think I need to explain a bit.

The mechanic works nicely and I found that levels had enough variety to keep me going. I feel like it would be fantastic for mobile. I also dig the story; it's simple, but I think it hits on the theme, and kind of sets a strange, otherworldly tone for everything else.

To be brutally honest: the aesthetic is bizarre. The bright colors, public domain images, sea creatures, and weird font combinations completely clash and are really off-putting at first. And yet, something about it worked for me...? Like, I was legitimately in another dimension and shit just didn't make any sense. I don't know, but the more I played the more I loved it. The whole thing just gives a weird vibe, but I'm not above vibing with the weird. (Not sure if this was intentional or not, and I apologize if any of it comes across as harsh. Obviously, this stuff is pretty subjective, so if what I'm saying sounds nonsensical (as it frequently does), feel free to ignore completely.)

If I have a criticism, it's with the last (?) level where you're flying. (I'm not actually sure if it's the last. As of writing this I haven't beat it, although I think once I'm finished rating I might go back for some more...) Clicking and controlling with the arrow keys feels pretty terrible, at least to me, and I found it really difficult to click things while they were moving (maybe build in some "assist" there, so if you're just a little off, you still get it to pop; I don't know). I like how it shakes things up and keeps things interesting, but I think this stage of the game in particular could use some work (if, of course, you're still going to be working on this after the jam).

Also, sometimes you could get caught in spots with no way out. I saw some other people mention some fixes to this that sound nice, so I won't linger much on this.

Anyway, sorry for a giant comment. I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say that this is one of my favorite entries that I've played so far, so I wanted to leave some thoughts and feedback with which you can do what you want. I'd love to see this expanded though. I'm not much of a bubble-popping game kind of guy, but this unexpectedly spoke to me on a spiritual level. This game confounds me.

I really appreciate your thoughtful and helpful feedback. I know the aesthetic is weird, which is a result of coming up with a workable idea for a 10 day game jam and then trying to build from there, steaming ahead, no looking back. Being limited to free assets is the reason for the old public domain art. I'm not much of an artist, so I had to figure something out. And the bright, garish colors went against my initial idea to make everything dark and gloomy and chthulian, but once I made the bubbles in bright, primary colors, I found the gameplay to be a little more satisfying. Again, thank you for both taking the time to play the game and to give such generous feedback!

And yes, the flying level is the last one, and I probably made that too difficult. Unfortunately, I found out that every one of my levels can be played on mobile except that last one, so I should probably get rid of it. Good luck with your projects!

Hey, I personally think the aesthetic still sort of works for a Lovecraft kind of vibe in a weird way to be honest. And again, I honestly love where the aesthetic ended up at anyway, even if it is weird. Glad my feedback didn't come across as excessive. I was a bit worried when I looked at how long the comment had become, haha. Good luck to you too!

Very fun to play for sure! Polishing this game and making some tutorial for the player a bit better would make it for sure be good! Who doesn't love popping bubbles! I almost never knew though like what happened after each, noticed at some point some text on the side which helped me to the right direction.

This is absolutely brilliant! So amazingly fun to play and so addictive, great job!

Submitted(+1)

There's a lot more here than first meets the eye. I enjoyed my time and found it quite interesting. I liked it.

Submitted(+1)

This is one addictive game, I got to level 8. I can see this being published on Steam. Keep up the good work!

Submitted(+1)

This is freaking addicting! I only got to like level 4 though. lol. I like the little story and progresison too. I would love to see a polished version of this some day!

Cool game, buble pop chaining was implemented very well. Bubble physics was very good too, they seemed very realistic. And the music is super catchy :D

One thing tough: it happened on more than one level to get stuck without having bubbles around, could not a way to move left or right to get unstuck. Being able to nudge left or right could help getting unstucked.

Well done, fun game! :)

Developer

That's a great idea. Yeah, when I played the game on my phone, I found myself trying to shake the phone to get the ship to move. There should definitely be a "jiggle" mechanic.

amazing music. game was addicting, and it made me stay a lot longer than i tought it would. it's so satisfying popping those bubbles. Really great job!

Submitted(+1)

Very addicting concept. The chain reaction bubbles are satisfying to pop, and I ended up sticking with this game for a while to try to beat it (which I did)!

I do think some of the mechanics are too unclear. In particular, for anybody stuck on that yellow bar on Level 4: I had no idea you needed to click ON the yellow bar first, then pop yellow bubbles. I think the instructions could have been more clear there.

Oh, and I liked all the music except for the one that plays during the first squid fight (I think). There's this dissonant high-pitched squeal that hits this particularly evil-sounding frequency, and no matter what volume it's at, I just couldn't stand it while wearing headphones. Thankfully, you only used that track once.

But like I said, I love the chain reaction thing! Overall, great job!!

Developer

This is great feedback. Thanks so much for your kind words and constructive comments! I'll check out that music, and I'll try to be more clear about the yellow bars. I know that part of the game is a little confusing. Thanks for confirming that!

Submitted(+1)

I enjoyed the music. The game mechanic is simple but very satisfying. Good job!

Love the art style you have gone with and love the sound design as well. I loved the overall feel of the game as well, it really felt like you were stuck under the waves and I loved the way all the bubbles rise to the surface.

The game is kind of difficult, but not unfairly so. Well done!

Thanks a lot for your kind feedback!

Hy

Thank you again commenting on my game

(Also first time commenting on anything online ever :) )

Me and my girls really liked yours :)

Although by  Level 12 I wanted to throw my mouse out the window , I couldn't hit those bubbles, it took some time to get the timing. Sometimes I had the feeling I was clicking on them but they still didn't pop.

But I liked it very much.

Submitted(+1)

I did not understand this game at all but I honestly played it for ages, crabby beat my ass... The music was fire

Submitted(+1)

The music is AMAZING! Sadly I couldn't destroy the yellow bars in the 5th level. I tried every color or is the size important?

If you have the time, please play and rate mine :D

Developer(+1)

You have to click the bars before hitting the yellow bubbles. I know, kinda confusing. I'll for sure play/rate your game!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

So the game is very much luck based and the player will be confused about what to do first.

The music and story are very good though.

Also this also my first time uploading a game and commenting on others as well.

Developer

thanks! I'll check out your game.
