How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
Candy Curfew is an adventure game built in GB Studio for the Gameboy Color.

Our plot centers around a young hero who trick or treating on their own for the first time. Not only is Halloween spooky by nature, but so are the concepts of newfound responsibility and looming time constraints.

What sort of adventures will you have before the clock strikes 8pm?

My favourite one in the Jam so far.

I have many games to try yet, but this is the first one I give perfect score in all categories

Nice jokes, I really had a good time playing this and searching for more and more candys! Great job!

You hear the horse’s butt muffle approval.

how do i get to the horse? XD good game man n_n got 21 candies :P

Developer

The horse is in the trailer park, and once you speak with them I recommend going to explore the woods by your house.

Submitted(+1)

the woods ehre the first place i went XD i left with 6 candies from there, btw niche avatar picture n_n

really neat feeling game, very nice puzzles, very charming. great job!

I dunno why, but I somehow get more of an 80s micro (C64, Spectrum, MSX) vibe from this one rather than game boy, even though it's literally a GBC game lol
Cute game idea btw!

Developer(+2)

It's likely because we chose a 1-bit-ish art style. A lot of our team had never done a game jam before, and we selected a fairly ambitious number of assets to create to fulfil our concept. This helped us ensure we'd get everything done in time.

I liked it! There were some interesting ways to get candy besides just knocking on doors, it was pretty neat! I think I got 36.

Submitted(+2)

That was quite charming! Simple, but proficient, with great writing to back it up. Great work!

Submitted(+1)

Great graphics style for use on the GBC, really nice. I should try it on hardware to see what it looks like! A fun game!

Developer(+2)

I have not yet flashed it to one of my cartridges, but we're planning to make a few copies for the team who worked on it, so I'm excited to try it out on my physical GBC as well.

i got 28 pieces of candy and i am rolling around going "oughh my tummy" because i ate it all too fast

goofing around aside, this was a really fun game with lots of little things to discover -- i will def come back to it! i don't have any sort of helpful comments but i will say, the hardest and scariest part was the car mini game T_T i am glad our hero wasn't harmed despite all my attempts.

I have also been felled by eating too much candy before, so I can relate.

I am quite proud of my 28 pieces of candy! I didn't have time to cross the road with my newly acquired ID unfortunately, but all the more reason to play again.  This game has a lot of character, charming dialogue and feels complete and polished. Fantastic entry!

Submitted(+1)

This was a lot of fun!! Loved the characters especially the horse :D Sadly I didn't manage to cross the street on time - but I'll try again!

Submitted(+1)

The color palette was a great fit and made it easy to understand what you should interact with 👍

Submitted(+1)

Quite a bit of dialogue with a little story, replayable for a better score, I like it, I haven't yet tried coming home after 8 hours. Simple but good!

Awesome, I had a huge smile on my face the whole time at all the little bits of dialogue and stories. A game about trick or treating is an awesome idea for this theme, and the gameboy vibes in art and music are off the chart!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Writing the dialogue was a lot of fun for me because the first step was getting the whole team together to share fun trick or treating anecdotes from our childhood.

We've all been friends for years but it was never really a topic we discussed before, which led to some good laughs.

Very neat and charming game! I had fun playing it.

Excellent color palette choice! Got 36 candies but didn't find how to cross the road. Anyway, that was very cool!

What an amazing game! Cute, funny and the little quests and mini games make up amazing gameplay! I really liked the art, you made great use of the 4 colour limit! The quirky characters really gave the town life and made me want to really explore the areas!

Developer

The mini games may seem cute and fun now, but the sliding one cost me a few hours of sleep as I battled to fix a bug that let you unintentionally do super sick drifts. Sinister.
