Really great entry with a great art style. Can't wait to see more.

This works so well on so many levels! The artwork and effects used really sells the theme(s). The whole experience legitimately felt like watching an old film reel with scratches and wobbly frames. Your storyline had me laughing and made the game even more enjoyable. That music clearly matches the artwork... perfectly! The simplicity of the game allows you to enjoy the show while still satisfying a nice little boss battle. A job well done!!

Great job! I really like the aesthetic and visuals. It could use some volume control in round 2, but i dont really have anything bad to say. You did a great job. I love the story so far and I am looking forward to chapter 2

Great entry given the criteria. Really nice package with a great cohesive art style. Really enjoyed playing this as well.

Nice!

Short, fun, silly, and sticks the landing with the ending! I think the old film effect could be toned down at least a little, but I can also appreciate wanting to ramp it up to 11 for the art-round entry of GDKO. Also love the idea enemy combo of spectacle vs monocle, nicely played! Looking forward to seeing this rivalry expand, unless indeed it was their inevitable death I guess haha (next round = prequel??)

You did a LOT with a little! It feels like you scoped this really well. The boss fight is fun and engaging without being difficult. The effects really sell the game, though--especially the film grain. That combined with the sound design for the projector and the ragtime music made for an excellent experience.

Best of luck in this round and I hope you continue the game in round 2!

Thanks!  I struggle hard with scope so I really tried to keep it simple and I'm glad it turned out well!  I had an absurd amount of over the top gameplay ideas haha.

Dear Sir Spectacles!, You have bravely fought against the 8 handed monster… I wanted you to win and deep in my heart i do believe that you defeated it. But am eagerly waiting to have your SPECTACULOOOR entry back .. Regards Dev

You did a great job with this one. The story and characters are charming and the aesthetic is spot on. Love it :)

Great artstyle! I love all the animations, the game feels really polished. The bossfight is very fun. Well done!

This game is beautiful! I love the old film visuals and the piano music hits perfect. Thanks for making this, i loved it

Really fun entry. Like alot of other have said you truly transported me back to the era of silent films. The presentation truly kicks ass. I had to go and show a couple of friends while playing it was so good. I love how you did spectacle in a couple of different ways. I feel like the player is a spectator, the story line was spectacle focused and the character designs, to the explosion at the end. ALSO love the story, Im a sucker for any narrative. Id love to see what happens next.

Love the silent film aesthetic. Great use of the theme. I can't wait to see where you go with this.

Agreeing with Loten! Great work with the art style! PS: thanks for the tip, I would never had survived to learn the boss patterns

I hope you continue the game, it's really excellent! The storytelling is good and the vintage aesthetics are a nice touch and I love the eyes and birds animation on Mr Monacle too

You are now using the modifier more as a part of the story, you could have leaned more into making the modifier part of the gameplay.

The opening scene is great, love the classic style and the game feel.  The art is really good!

It's short but really nice entry ! You nailed the silent movie aesthetic perfectly. I want this to be continued on next round !!

First thing to stand out was great story telling along with a good sense of humour :), you were the first one I played so you may have got some free bonus points as I have no comparisons. With your tip I am glad I got the full experience, to be continued...

The art style is absolutely incredible, it's so cohesive and unique! I especially loved the opening sequence the 3 2 1 was just so perfect!! It was super fun to play as well, hopefully one day will find out what happens next!

I actually made some art for having Sir Spectacles wake up in a CRT TV dimension with more of a classic orange nose disguise glasses look, but got to the point where making it look good required making a whole new tile set so I scrapped it. Guess we'll just have to see what the task is for round 2 and decide from there haha.

Very fun lil game! Loved the art style and the old-timey look of things! I know you'll get this a lot, but it definitely gave me Cuphead vibes!

Loved your game

You pulled off old-timey black and white film vibe really well. The sprite animations are really good too. I think the explosion at the end could've been expanded with more effects/sounds to give a better pay-off for winning.

Developer

Thanks for playing!  I almost added in a piano smash sound at the end, but changed my mind.  Should've gone for it
