I used to play a lot of the lego games as a kid, so this was pretty nostalgic for me. I had a lot of fun playing it, the building, movement and shooting mechanics all felt solid, as did the whole theme. I did find myself wondering around at times and thought that some red arrows around the edges of the screen that indicated the direction that enemies where located would've been handy. But it was fun just zooming into them and being out gunned haha. Nice work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your comment. I am glad I could give you some nostalgia. Regarding your suggestion, I am going to add indicators in the future, which should hopefully also help balancing. Again, thanks for playing and taking the time to comment :)

I love the aesthetic of the game! Being able to build next to the things I already built was something I didn't expect, and I really appreciate that mechanic. The movement is also quite nice and feels like it would be a Lego since the directional keys only turned the player rather than moved it in that direction. I think the main thing that wasn't mentioned is having the arrow (the one that points which way you're facing) visible no matter what. I noticed the arrow would be blocked by my turrets and such, so putting it on a different layer like UI would probably help. Other than that, really nice job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I will try to add some sort of indicator in the future that shows where the player is currently facing.

Very creative use of the theme! Love building as you go and the whole Lego aesthetic, very clean!

I have a couple of critiques, it would be nice if each block had some kind of visual indication of how damaged they are so I know if they are in danger of being destroyed. The bots shooting at you from off screen especially when they have a lot of turrets can feel a little unfair maybe a zoom out could help with this? The last thing is that the UI while very nice aesthetically takes up a bit too much space on the screen it becomes very difficult to see if another vehicle comes from below.

As a suggestion: It could be quite fun if there were random power-up blocks across the map making you want to explore more! Overall though solid idea, enjoyed playing it and hope you had fun making it too! Well done!

Developer

Yes, the balancing is off. I do plan to add a radar in the next update and also zoom out the camera some more. The UI is also getting changed.

Thanks for the feedback and the ideas. The different power-up blocks are actually super interesting. I'm not totally sure what they could be, but I like it.

Love the Lego theme :D

The difficulty of finding the right enemies to fight has already been mentioned, but other than that I really like it!

Developer

Thanksss! I really appreciate you taking the time to play my game.

As a big LEGO fan I love the idea! Very nice concept with building your machine from blocks . The only con for me is that it is really hard to get away from stronger enemy. I would really like to see how it turns to bigger project with more parts to use.

Developer

Thanks man! Yeah, the balancing is off, but there's already a lot of things planned to fix it. Again, thanks for playing!

Submitted

Very cool concept, and well polished visuals. Keep up the good work!

Developer

Thanks you! I really appreciate it! :)

Super fun game! The sound design is super satisfying, and the gameplay loop is solid. The one real criticism that I'd have is that there's no real way to know where enemies are, so you spend a lot of time just wandering around trying to find things to fight. Maybe a minimap or a enemy compass could be nice.

Overall, really fun, fits the theme well, feels snappy and good to control, really cool entry!

Developer

Yes, I am going to implement a radar in the next update that shows the position and size of the enemies. This should also go a long way toward helping balance the game.

Thanks for the feedback! (If anyone reads this, go play his game now, it's sick)

What a fun game! The adrenaline rush you get when you encounter an enemy, and the actual satisfaction of defeating them, so good. Something you could add though is to make the player able to not have a full reset when they die, and instead still have some of their legos, making it feel like all the playthroughs are more connected :)

Developer

That's actually a great idea that I haven't thought of so far. Thanks!

Np! :D

I really like your super cute take on the theme. I died instantly a few times, but after reading the comments I tried some more and found some less deadly enemies and was able to progress and have a lot of fun building my giant lego death machine.

Some ideas that I have, since I see you want to expand this game, are making the time to kill longer (so that you aren't destroyed instantly, and can more strategically target specific sections of enemies or decide to run away) and zooming out the camera when not in build mode, because a lot of my engagements happened at the very edges of my screen.

Great job with the jam, and I'm happy you're expanding it! :D

Developer

Thanks for the awesome ideas! I currently have a lot of stuff planned to expand the game.

I will definitely increase the camera size and also the player's health to make the fights last longer, because that's where all the action is.

I also plan on adding a radar that shows where enemies are and their strength.

Thanks for taking the time to comment :)

LEGOOOOO... You know it!

Love the idea of using legos! The enemies were a bit hard to find and sometimes just way overpowered so I didnt know where to go most of the time. Maybe by changing the colors of the floor you can give the players hints of a dificulty increase in enemies? Overall good game!

Developer(+1)

That's actually the first time I've heard someone mention changing the blocks to different colors to signal more difficult enemies. I never thought of that; that's actually brilliant. I could also add different biomes and stuff. Thanks for the idea!

Submitted

Love the conceptual idea and the design style of the game! Unfortunately I got obliterated as soon as I encountered an enemy... Hoping to see the idea being expanded upon in the future because it looks really promising!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah, the balancing is off right now. I have already fixed it for the next update. I also plan on adding more blocks and environments to the game. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and play my game :)

Great game ! However the balancing at first isn't the best, i died several times because i immediately bumped into stronger legos, but once you start killing some it is easy to get a lot of pieces and become much bigger, i liked the concept and the executiion, as well as the implementation of the theme. There is also a bug where if you die you have to restart the game, because player can't move. But overall the game is really good ! Keep up the good work :)

Developer(+1)

Yes, I sadly didn't encounter that bug during playtesting. It's already fixed in the next version; too bad it never occurred during testing.

Also, for the balancing, I do plan on adding a map or radar in the future that shows nearby enemies and their sizes, which should hopefully fix that problem.

Anyway, I really appreciate your feedback and taking the time to comment, Thanks for playing my game!

Submitted

I died at least 3 times immediately bumping into the strongest enemy in the game (at least from what I've seen), otherwise I wandered around aimlessly until I found a weak enough enemy. To solve both problems, I'd suggest adding some kind of arrow/obj that keeps sending you towards an enemy approximately your level (total sum of the currencies you've collected so far?), with the game becoming bounty hunting these guys while avoiding "the bigger fish".

The idea and visuals are quite nice however and there's absolutely nothing to complain about. All in all, great effort!

Developer

Heyy! Thanks for playing.

Yeah, balancing is a big problem right now. I will add a radar in the future that looks at the number of building blocks you currently have and compares them to those of your enemies.

Thanks for the feedback!

I was having a lot of fun sliding around on the lego surface, it was always something I did not enjoy with real lego blocks and this game gave me a chance to enjoy something I've always wanted to with them lol

I was a little lost for a minute because I thought I was supposed to be driving on the roads at first. Then I figured out how to add the extra lego bits to my main piece and accidently ran into one of the enemies as soon as I finished.

I think having just 1 or maybe even two currencies (offensive/defensive types) and add an extra lego pieces to the add-ons could create more choice for the player; I pretty much always made the same tank each playthrough. I don't think I was very good at it though or the game might be a little hard for newbies to start out so maybe giving a tutorial mode first just to get the hang of it and destroy some weaker tank lego would help players like me some more.

Really liked looking at it though, really did capture the feeling of playing with Lego again!

Developer(+1)

I appreciate the feedback. I am going to reduce the currencies in a future update to only 1 to encourage strategizing.

And yeah, the game is currently very hard because I sadly didn't have enough time to balance it, but that should be fixed in the next update.

I actually also had more pieces implemented, but I wasn't able to finish the art for them in time, so I had to remove them at the at the last minute, which kind of sucked, but well, that's how game jams work, I guess haha.

Thanks for taking the time to comment and play my game!

Really nice game, but a lil biased cuz i love lego hehe

but i think making seperate currencies takes away fron the decision-making, it would be more fun if it was just gold dots to collect and the played could choose what to invest in (it would also make the player able to make a full-defense, or full-attack tank)

also the enemies are very few, it takes quite a long time to find one. so either enemy number should be more, or map should be smaller. but apart from that this was very well made!

Developer

Who doesn't love Lego, right? hahaha.

The gold dots are a great idea. I wasn't totally sure what color I should use when I am going to combine them in the next update. So that's one less thing to worry about, haha. Also, the idea of being able to focus on one single block type sounds great.

For the enemy problem, I plan on adding a radar that shows enemy positions and also their size, which would also help balance the game because right now you can just get ambushed out of nowhere and pretty much just die.

Thanks for taking the time to play my game! :)

The visuals are great, and the lego theme fits so well with the mechanic of building your own vehicle It's also very polished and fun. It's a bit hard though. Also having three different currencies remove the player agency to choose in which part he should invest.

Developer

Yesss totally. I do plan on removing them in the future and just making it one single currency. I am honestly glad more people keep telling me that, because that just shows how much better it is. I also plan on working more on the balancing to make it more fair at the beginning and more epic at the end haha. Thanks for commenting and playing.

The lego style got me hooked to the game. And the shooting is so satisfying too! Good job for someone going solo! Just one thing to note, sometimes you move so fast that the player overlapped the UI, not sure if that is normal haha.

Developer

Yeah, I realized this like 10 minutes before the jam ended. Imagine my face haha. The problem is that the camera can look so far ahead that it overlaps with the player. I am going to fix that in the next update. Thanks for taking the time to write a comment and play my game!

Submitted

As a lot of people mentioned, art is great! And the chosen lego setting is a win-win here. Noticing that it's a solo game - wow, it always amazes me that people can do some solid games all alone in 48/96 hours. Good!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, man. I really appreciate the kind words and you taking the time to play my small game :)

Woow, awesome art style and color palette! We had a blast with this one! Really creative take on the theme! Awesome job!

Developer

Thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment, and I am glad you enjoyed my little game :)
