The voice acting feels like such a unique thing in this jam, it's really well done as well!
I'm also a sucker for Greek mythology so great job to the writer for doing it justice!
Great teamwork and great jam submission overall.
Thank you very much for the detailed feedback. We loved making it too^^
Very cool to see the voice acting! Great use of art assets combined together, with only some minor inconsistencies.
The combat felt quite good. The long invulnerability duration after hitting the enemies was awkward at first, but could be adapted to. Nice job on the AI for the enemies and the first boss, felt like I was fighting actual enemies instead of just mindless zombies! Being able to jump on enemies was cool.
I scrolled through the comments and didn't see any mention of this, maybe it only happened to me somehow through some bug? After beating Aphrodite and getting the double jump, I used the statue to return, and then got up to Nightmare. However, after the first death to Nightmare, I lost my double jump ability. I got back up to Nightmare one more time without the double jump out of stubbornness, but after that I had to move on. I'll be watching for updates to the game after the jam so I can give it another try!
Hey mate, thanks a lot for the thorough feedback. We tried our best to balance the combat but we actually didn't have enough time. We had bugs at the last 20-30 mins before we actually released it. Had to get up in the middle of the night to double check everything :D. The nightmare and the bugs are actually somewhat consistent and we are looking into it. The name is not just nightmare for the players but for us as well haha. After the jam is ended, I believe it will have been resolved. Again, thanks a lot for the feedback^^
Understandable! Haha, how fitting for "nightmare." Thanks for the game!
The gameplay itself is very good, the music matches the theme very well. This game, so far the ones I've played, is the only one that has voices dubbing the story, that's really cool. I don't think I've played even half the game, I'm not sure, but I'll definitely come back. Great job!
Thank you very much for the feedback. Definitely come back. There are more bosses to kill :D
Thank you for enjoying the Muisic, you can check out the full OST I wrote here - https://soundcloud.com/theturtlebox/sets/psychepath-ost
Really interesting story, I like the spin on this classic myth - always thought it was creepy!
It was interesting, wasn't it? I myself didn't even know the story but Alex put a great spin on it. Thank you for taking the time to give the feedback
voice notes and pixel art are really nice . Great efforts <3
thank you <3
I really enjoyed the uniqueness of the boss fights and the combat system overall. This seems like it may be an extension of a udemy course? Never the less, looks and feels great good job! I really enjoyed how I can jump on the enemies to hurt them, made getting past those archers a breeze :D
Thank you for playing. Some of the codes (player movement, game manager) is actually from the other project in my channel. That one is also a metroidvania. However, all the enemies and bosses and level design are made from scratch. Archers are inspired by the ones from Dead Cells but I think my archers are 2X more annoying 😁. Glad you enjoyed the game 😊
ngl i really enjoyed the voice acting... though the different artstyles for the assets are very jarring to see put together
Thank you very much for playing it. Yeah, they are all free assets put together. Just went with how I felt good, and it somewhat turned out good, I guess?^^
As one of the voice actors, thank you so much. We had a great team for this project!
Good golly, voice acting (in a game jam entry!) always blows me away. Great work there.
Some of the art was super cool, especially the backgrounds and the player character. I also loved all the little things that would move around in the backgrounds, great details. But sometimes it seemed to lack some cohesion. For example, Hephaestus seemed weirdly huge and had an outline...?
The story and world really draws you in because you've done a good job building it. I don't know that the big exposition dump from Hephaestus is totally necessary, but it's not terrible. The writing is pretty good!
Overall, this is shockingly fleshed out. Could just use some polish and refining. Excellent entry!
Thank you very much for the kind words. About Hepha, I went around, looked for some sprites (All the assets are free assets), and couldn't find anything. Then I just tried some random AI pixel art for it and initially it was actually just a placeholder. But as you can see we never had time to work on it. So there you go Hepha :D. Again, Thank you for playing it and I'm glad you liked it. About the Voice Actors, we are all positively shocked ourselves too :D
Ah, I'd somehow missed the asset list on the game page. Yes, it can be quite difficult to find free assets that feel cohesive and still align to your vision of a world and story!
Voice acting was really nice. Art direction was pretty strong but inconsistent style/pixel size through me off, and the nightmare boss was a little confusing. Overall a very solid and polished metroidvania.
Glad you liked it and thank you for playing it. Yeah, Nightmare does that to us as well :D
Woah voice acting! Overall the art was very good, but a bit inconsistent. Very cool boss fights too!
Thank you very much for playing it. Each time I play it myself, I say the exact same thing too. "Wow to the Voice actors" ^^
Nice game the controls felt really nice to play with. I thought the spear ability was a really unique and cool one. I was however able to scale invisible walls and jump out of bounds with it but honestly that was part of the reason I liked that ability so much 🤣
Hahaha Well done. You beat the true boss. The game itself. Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the game.
Thanks a lot. Glad you liked it^^
Sick pixel art and voice lines, i liked the combat and boss fighting! Especially how skeletons follow you between platforms if they can (I tried implementing that with my game enemies as well) rather than just moving forward and backward as soon as you escape like enemies usually do!
Glad you liked it. Yeah I always have this thought that no enemy should be just idle around and do nothing. They all should somehow pose a threat. Not that much sure about our ghosts though. Well, they get invisible :D
Incredible work on visuals and music. Love the vibe of this game because eveything matching well. Was pleasure to play!
Thank you very much for the kind words^^ Glad you liked it.
Very cool game, art is bright and vivid, music is very cinematic and even has voice acting. I also enjoyed the boss fights which where challenging. Well made.
Thanks a lot for the feedback <3
Very cool! The skeleton archer was a pain, omg! hahahah!
That was the intention :D. Hey glad to receive the feedback. Thanks a lot^^
Amazing game actually. keep it up
Glad you liked it, We loved making it for sure^^
Props to the voice actors, it was really unexpected! Game looked and sounded great, The game felt a bit hard to me, especially with the enemies' long immunity after taking a hit. It kind of breaks your momentum. I got up to Aphrodite, I enjoyed my stay. Nice entry!
Thanks a lot for the feedback. We tried a lot for bugfixing and we're still doing it. The voice actors are just great <3. Hope you had good time, we had great time making it. Thanks for playing it.
Incredibly this game has fully voice acted cutscenes, as well as a running internal monologue from our protagonist! The gameplay is reminiscent of Momodora 4, with both the melee and ranged combat options. I managed to get the air dash after defeating nightmare, then I ended up accidentally fighting Ares a second time - I'm not sure that was meant to happen! Really enjoyable game though, congratulations!
Thank you for the feedback, I'm very glad you enjoyed it. <spoiler> Yes you basically encounter him twice, once at the beginning and once at the end. After nightmare you should have gone to Ares castle for his boss fight and to unlock the trident to reach Eros</spoiler>
I've beaten all boss up until Eros, the path to get back was quite demanding.. once I get up there, I'm pretty much half cooked. and Eros just start zippin and dippin on you. A closer checkpoint would be great. The Voice Acting is 10/10.
Yes, you are right, we wanted to introduce a portal system when interacting with the statues to move around the map, but I did not manage to implement it in time. Thank you for the feedback and for playing it.
