The voice acting and ambience are seriously good - which just makes me wish there was some music kicking in at parts that should feel intense. Obviously the game is beautiful. Unfortunately I had serious framerate and control issues while playing and couldn't get past the first scaffolding part, as both input lag and the fact that the precise platforms are at 45 degrees made me frustrated after five minutes of trying.

Furthermore, the first enemy I encountered did not attack me, and the interact option did not pop up at all when interacting with the control panel there.

Wish I had the patience to experience the story and see what the scientist summoned! I love voice logs and these easily had me interested.

Developer (1 edit)

Hey! Yea the first enemy wasn't suppose to attack you, so it worked as intended! It was just suppose to showcase that there is potentially enemies coming up! That being said, originally we had dialogue to help build that part of the narrative, But we ran out of time  to implement any of it. :(

Thank you so much for playing though! And sorry you had the framerate issues! That's an optimization thing we are hoping to fix later!

This is one of the few horror-esque games I've played so far, interesting that it is a platformer, it's simple yet it gets tense! I like the original assets that have hand painted style textures, I just wish the other stuff assets were more cohesive with them, also cool that there is voice acting definitely a plus. I think the main thing that takes away is that pathways can get obscured, I died a bunch on the fourth level just trying to find where to go, also maybe a death animation would be nice. This is one entry where I think the challenge really added to the enjoyment though, great job.

Developer

Oh man, I so agree with wishing the other assets were cohisive! We had a stand in for the main character, and a few other things, that still were hand drawn, but weren't quite the style of everything else (we didn't settle on style until like 30% through, so some assets got left behind in the "generic hand drawn asset" look.) and the other half of the assets didn't even get used (we had some hand drawn birds and flowers and other things that we didn't even have time to implement.)

Thank you so much for your suggestions though! I feel like if we did publish an update post jam, that we would integrate all the suggestions you had, and that a bunch of other people had!

Very well made for a gamejam game! I really like the sense of scale of being so high up in these areas

That's awesome you guys were able to make a game with a full story within the time we were given for the jam. Awesome work! I did find a skip/glitch in the final level. You don't need to open the first door in the final level. If you walk right up to the barrier you can just walk right over it. I think you might just need to raise the barrier a bit higher to separate it from the floor a bit more. But other than that I didn't see many issues :)

Developer

Omg! Okay this is good to know cuz I'm competing speed run times with my friend on this game! And we hadn't found that skip yet! I will patch that in future builds though! Thank you for finding! (We also found like 3 soft lock spots, and a couple other spots you can accidently skip, lol) Thank you so much for the feedback!

Impressive world and narrative.

If you could take a few extra hits a level, as well as have some SFX for the footsteps and the spirits,
I think you'd get a pretty darn good experience.

Visuals look nice (especially the spirits) with an entertaining story.

Developer

I fully agree with both those suggestions! The SFX unfortunately we just had no time to implement. And as for the multiple hits, I unfortunately don't know how to do that yet in UE5. (Still very new to game stuff) But I will implement those if I make future builds! Thank you for the suggestion!

Nice work! All of the 3D models looked really good. Nice work on the ambient sounds and voice acting too. (+1 to the yellow ledge comment - it seems cheesy, but I don't know if I would have been able to figure things out without them.) I probably should have tried controller instead of KBM, but we got there eventually!

Submitted(+1)

I haven't done much at all in the realm of 3d but this game has really inspired me to try. Your models are low-poly yet everything has a strong identity and atmosphere. Really great work. Nerve-wracking stuff

Submitted(+1)

hey these were some very neat little perspective puzzles. i really appreciated the little touches of yellow marks or guardrails to clarify the depth of certain ledges. also really liked the "scribbly" trees in the beginning of the game. nice job!

Developer

The ol AAA yellow "this ledge is safe" markers. Haha. Yea, it felt a little too confusing without them. And a bit all over the place, so it felt like they helped a tiny bit. Thank you so much for the feedback!

Fun vertigo simulator!

The graphics, lighting, and design are done really well.  A load of work clearly went into this.  I must say the cover image just doesn't do the game justice.  Just use a nice screenshot instead.  Rare, but pleasant to see voice logs in jam games.  Game might give some vertigo, those ledges are insanely small!  Also, you might want to look into the frame rate.

Submitted(+1)

The environments looked really nice and it was neat navigating through them, and I appreciated the voice acting and story. I didn't have any performance like others may have complained about, but my computer definitely turned into a jet engine haha, Overall nice job!

Developer(+1)

The good ol' poorly optimized route! Lol! yeaa. we kinda stopped optimizing correctly about 80% of the way through the project. and. well. it caught up to us in the end. Thank you for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

The fps was horrendous for me so I couldn't play through the whole game sadly. The environments at least seemed very cool and especially big for a jam game.

Developer(+1)

Yea! unfortunately near the end of making the game the optimization kind of  went out the window :( a rough example is some of even the small pebbles on the ground were drawn on a 2048x2048 texture size. which was COMPLETELY unnecessary. Fortunately we have learned for next time! so could probably make the same game again now at like 1/3rd or 1/4th the size.  Thank you for the feedback!

Cool game! Very atmospheric and the puzzles were designed well. Great work on this!

Developer

Thank you so much!!

Beautiful game, love the environment, lighting! Gameplay experience probably smoother with controller rather than keyboard mouse, but still had my fun.

Thank you for the game <3

Developer

yes! it definitely is smoother with controller, I think if i was every to pad this out i would work a tiny bit more on movement as the main focus just help it feel a bit more smooth and enjoyable type of deal. Thank you for the feedback!

Great game with an impressive amount of content!  I really enjoyed speed running across those narrow girders which apparently were built up in the stratosphere without adherence to any OSHA regulations. Though I suppose if they were dipping into the void for power, I shouldn't be surprised. A testament to the controls that I could do that! It was some sweaty palms stuff. Also a couple of the trucks near the start of the game looked like creepers. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! one of artists did all the UV texture work for both the trucks (although same texture, just hue switched it from pink to green for the other models)! thank you a ton for your comment!

Cool little game, really enjoyed the overall aesthetic.  Had kind of an old school 3d vibe.  The controls were surprisingly tight, which is good, because I was running like a madman on those damn ledges :D

Submitted(+1)

A fun game with nice aesthetics. I love the enemy design and wobble shader. Only note that I haven't seen covered already is that the audio logs are very quiet. For the elevator log I had to increase my volume to 3.5x my normal amount to hear what was being said.

Cool concept, loved the voice acting as well! I missed a little BGM but nothing major. Found it a little confusing to traverse the map, some parts that were climbable did not look that they were. Overall great job!

Submitted(+1)

damn, game is too advanced for my dinky laptop. screenshots look so cool though, its too bad.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

It's definitely our optimization! And not your laptop! Learned a lot about correctly optimizing a game from this project, and even then lost track of optimization about 80% of the way through the project as the end day got closer. So it became a bit bloated :( it's a good thing for me to brush up on though before my next jam. Thank you so much for the feedback though!

Submitted(+1)

Great little horror experience! The voice acted logs were a great addition, and I like the sensation of being really high up after level 1. That said, I think it's a bit too easy to fall off, but that's probably just a skill issue on my part. Fun game!

Developer

Thank you! Yea we actually had made it easier then it was initially after the first play test In our group. But I think we forgot that we were all SO use to the game that it was 2nd nature for us at that point to climb the tower. I think when I make something like this again I'll make it a tiny bit easier for sections. And maybe only hard spots for like... Getting to optional audio logs or something. Thank you so much for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Great vibes and actually good line deliveries with those logs! The game was very well paced with the tension building up and more and more discoveries emerging! I wish I had better PC to run this properly, the second level especially ran very poorly on my rig, but I still persisted despite those technical hiccups! Well done!

Developer(+1)

I realized a little to late that the game wasn't really optimized as good as I could have  :/ it has been so nice to get to discover these things from other people playing the game though! As it'll make me buckle down the optimization, and some other hiccups people have mentioned, for future projects. Thank you so much for the feedback!
