How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
My game is a gb file meaning it is quite gameboy styled if i do say. My game is also spooky. It follwos a lightheared spooky where there are cute monsters but a slightly scary monster at the end

I like the concept. The platforming is a bit slippery which make it harder and I didnt understand how to beat or avoid the first boss. I pretty much kept evading him and tried jumping on his head but in the end nothing worked.

Sprites are looking nice.

Developer

Well instead of evading you may want to consider escaping

Submitted

Awwww they mad. Big mad.

Platforming is on the slippery side, and if the precision platforming vibes I got early hold true, the slippery platforming may be a liability in the long run.

The concept of stealing their spookiness is novel. I like it.

gameplay is a a bit too hard for me, but interesting concept anyway! visuals and audio are pretty good and in the spirit of the gameboy, good job!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, the mechanics are a little tricky to get used to, after-all I was play-testing and messing with them a lot so I git used to them. Thanks for your feedback!

the idea. the puzzle platformer like level design and the art is really well made.

while this does make it feel more like a gameboy game the character did feel a bit to hard to control fully, mainly with the fast fall which just causes some of the puzzles to just drop the ball with enjoyment. but even with this it wasn't enough to fully hinder my enjoyment with the game.

Overall this is a very solid game, I think it's a slight bit to hard and the talking sound is atrocious but again these weren't enough to make the game unenjoyable.

Developer(+1)

I'm sorry to hear you didn't like the talking sound effects, and as far as the falling mechanic, you can mash the button for a slower descent.  Glad to hear you still liked the game overall.

got stuck on the 2nd boss, and the guide didn't really help. although i do like the concept of the game

Developer

Hey I'm sorry, that boss is honestly super buggy. If I where to update the game he would be the first thing I'd fix. I'm kinda considering making a post-jam update to this game. Glad to hear you liked the concept of the game. And sometimes resetting the 2nd fight can help.

Submitted

One of the best I've played in this jam. Boss guide didn't help with the first boss though :-P I quit after 20+ times.

Developer(+1)

Jump off the guy and make it to the right ledge. Sorry to hear it wasn't all that clear.

Submitted (1 edit)

Oh, I did jump off of him, but did not think to do it far right. All good, my bad. Not your fault, you do not have to spoon feed the solution ;-)

I really liked this one! It spotlights an awesome mechanic, has cool puzzles, and has bosses that require thinking. The pixel art and characters are interesting and easy to understand. The movement is very fluid and feels right with only a little practice. cant wait to play this on my hand held device!

Developer(+1)

Ah thanks, glad to see you liked it, you made quite the game yourself. I was thinking of making a more expanded version of this game later with better and more fights.

Really creative concept and level design. But without your boss guide I probably could not have figured out how to defeat the eye guy at the tower.

Also, always having to go through all of the boss dialogue again and again after every death became quite frustrating.

But I really love the art style and the flying mechanic 🤩

Developer

Honestly the tower boss was kinda bad and I apologize for that. I kinda want to make an updated version where all bosses are just overall better.

Submitted

Really great art and gameplay. I like the concept and dialogue too. I tried the 2nd boss many times even after reloading my save, and it doesn't seem to work for me. Also, when I first reload my save there are bars on the left and top side of the screen, but it goes back to normal if I die once.

Developer

Yeah I know its just a visual bug. I'll fix that if I make a updated version, which I kinda plan on doing.

Submitted

Really love the graphics and the setup of the story here! Also really liked the gameplay - it was easy to learn the mechanics and it was fun using it!

Submitted

That was charming! I really like the concept and character design; the splash screen in the intro was a good touch! The fast fall is a little awkward, but the mechanics are competent and fun to use.

The soundtrack is cool, but a little awkward. I like the musical ideas present, but there seems to be a lot of unintentional dissonance.

I got stuck on the second boss; they fell into the spikes dozens of times. I tried your suggestion below of quitting and loading the save, but it doesn't seem to change anything.

All-in-all, good work!

Cool start with very difficult enemies. The flight mechanic is done well and satisfying to figure out.

Loved the idea of monsters losing their spook. This was a really clever, simple, effective game mechanic that led to some interesting puzzle platforming situations. Tons of personality too - great job!

Cool game! I got stuck on the first boss but had fun up to that point. Cool take on a celeste like game, my only suggestion would be to let me skip dialogue when repeating boss fights.

Submitted

Challenging little platformer with a couple of unique movement mechanics. I'm not good enough at this to get past the first real enemy but I liked where the game was taking me!

Submitted

I don't know if I'm a noob or what, but I got stuck on the first screen. I can't jump high enough to proceed...

Developer

Just remember hit the up button to fly

Submitted

I get it after a while, ahah sorry!

Submitted

I'm in love with the scary monster turned cute. I also liked the hover move the cute monster did. The bosses were confusing on how to beat. I got past the first one, but was stumped on the second. All in all, very cute game and great submission for the jam. Nice job!

Developer

The second boss has a huge bug, if you quit the game and load your save it works, my apologies

Submitted

Don't apologize. We only had 10 days to make a game, and you made a super cute one. I liked the puzzle element to your game, trying to figure out how to get through each screen. You should be feeling proud of what you accomplished, not apologizing. We do Jams to get experience and ideas, not for perfect games. You did awesome!

Developer

Ah thanks man. Means alot also I'm kinda planning on making a bug fix boss improvement version, but don't hold me on that.

I got stuck on the first enemy and didn't know what to do :(

I don't understand, how many hits does the guy take?

Nevermind i figured it out
Got stuck on the second one tho

Developer(+1)

The first guy you jump on to get on the ledge.

the second guy you need to drop into the spikes.

same with the third

Developer

There is a better boss guide on the comment section if it helps.
