How does your game fit the theme?
I satisfied the pallet offered, and there are two points of the story to play through- one path leading to the rescue of marcus for a presumed assassination attempt, and another defending red army from said rescue.

funny game I liked it!!

I was not expecting 2D splatoon but here we go. This entry could use a few tweaks with the movement but I love the idea. The gameplay fits so well with the palette and the story with the theme. Great work!

Very nice art. Yummy yummy 🦈

Wow, this one is incredibly impressive. Mega man splatoon with cutscenes, amazing spritework and music! You should be proud of this one.

One of the best interpretations of the theme I've seen so far, a sort of political righteousness twist on it. I played red first.
One of the first things I noticed was the floatiness of the movement. 2d platformer movement is a science that takes some iteration, but I think it is always absolutely crucial because its 99% of your gameplay. I can understand maybe wanting to encourage players to stay undergoop to get tigher movement, but any time you progress forward in an area you can't cover it in goop very quickly, so you end up playing semi on-foot. That said I love the core mechanic for red of shooting the gloops splattoon-style. I think the fact that gloops bounce off of puddles is really cool and a great idea. The level design was sufficient, though there were 1 or 2 points where the puddles bugged out and made it hard to traverse properly.

After I beat it I played blue. Blue was a little less fun for me for a couple of reasons. His main mechanic is almost strictly worse than Red's. It has lower max range, and cannot create puddles alone (which was important for good movement). His level was also a lot simpler and shorter, just a simple survival.

A really positive thing about this game was its polish in some places. Its art, music, and sound design were phenomenal for a jam game (and it looks like a 1 man band). The story was charming and the skip cutscene button was a thoughtful touch given everyone replays it once.

Thanks for your feedback! I had the chance to get to see how the web version runs on some other laptops and found that on some laptops, the game's optimization is terrible. This leads to unexpected interactions like player floatiness- Which may be fixed with the downloadable version of the game I'll provide here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rJQwita9FZlDsiy6GGLnnWQnv-hbGXYK/view?usp=shari... For the blue side, I completely understand, I wanted to have the ability to pick up dropped enemy weapons and didn't get a chance to tweak the difficulty so that you aren't juss standing around. Here's a more fleshed out version of the concept here: https://x.com/isaaccchase/status/1880219831674499499 . Thank you so much for your input on the game! Very useful to know before I start investing mass amounts of time into a dream project!

Great game! The sense of movement with Red in particular was very nice. I had a lot of fun experimenting with the physics engine, doing tricks like holding down while in mid-air to fall faster. Spamming the bullets at the end of Red's section to run super fast was my favorite part. The music was a really relaxing for a war game as well, in a good way. The color palette gave you just enough room to work with the theme too, and you definitely excelled there.

The enemy design was interesting. The enemies and player characters being so similar really highlights the idea that everything in the war here is a matter of perspective.

The sound effects were mostly fine. Perhaps a bit quiet. Perhaps needed some better impact for the player deaths in particular, with animations to go along with that component. Also, running all the way to the right during Blue's second screen caused a game over and there was no indication that would happen. Bringing Red's president back safely was also a bit bothersome due to him swinging around the stage when the player presses left or right. There's definitely room for polish, especially in terms of proofreading.

Still, the physics engine is rather amazing. I'm reminded of old European PC games like Turrican, with some Splatoon DNA of course. Extra points for the opening cutscene. It made me feel bad for laughing.

Overall, fantastic game.

I liked it, very nice art and game play, some minor bugs but those are normal doing a game jam,

For me the 2 most noticeable where the paints that only covered half walls and the running while shooting animation. Nothing that takes away from enjoying this game however.

Very good game! I liked the option to play in both sides. Playability is good and mechanics are pretty fun. Also music and sounds are quite good as well as story. The only thing I would improve are the movements physics on platform zones  and I would add some missing invisible walls to avoid player falling into the void and having to restart the level. Very good job!

The mobility and platforming are so cool! It makes me want to speedrun through the game and play more of it!

Extra points because of gayness >:3

Congratulations

Good game, love the art and music, cool idea to create two points of view of the same history, loves the gameplay and game, nice entry x3

Super fun game! Cool story and art, music is also great!

Very interesting take on the theme and well executed too. Good job!

Amazing game! Super fun, especially the red side. It has great speedrunning potential and a nice story too. My favorite game I've played so far!

Unique aesthetic and the music is great. Fun, fast paced action. The player is unable to turn direction until the movement speed is below a certain value, which makes the controls a bit awkward.

Love the art, cute story. Got addicted to doing consecutive splatoon hops with the red player, to the point where I decided to record footage as non-written feedback, after making a bit of progress into red's level. Here's the video

Handling was a bit floaty, up for jump is unorthodox for platformers and took some getting used to, and the defensive gameplay for blue was a cool twist, but I found the combat less engaging than the platforming

Also the music goes CRAAZY

Developer

Yo, so this is awesome! thanks for taking the time to make the video! It's hard trying to imagine how someone plays the game so this is super useful for me. The version of the game you played was quite laggy- that might be because it was on my end, which explains the floatiness. If you would like, could you try this downloadable version and see if it preforms any better? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rJQwita9FZlDsiy6GGLnnWQnv-hbGXYK/view?usp=shari...

Great visuals and a fun take on the theme! I enjoyed the writing/design, I feel like the game could be expanded easily. The controls were a little difficult to grasp, especially for Rowan. I would have liked to be able to use the knife upwards, also. A very good use of the palette, good job!

Developer

After playing your game the upwards knife thing checks out lol

Good game and concept, sometimes I feel the control is a bit difficult, good job

Since I testplayed it for you I already gave you my complete feedback. You did a great job. I love the game

An amazing game. I love the art. The only problem I've had that the blue blocks in the interiors flickered and made me a little dizzy.

But other than that amazing job. Congratulations!

Wait I see what you're talking about now- its like this optical-illusion effect by the constant pattern

Damn the art on the dialogues is crazy good! I loved it, and I like the humor as well.

Nice mechanics and fun gameplay! Well done bro
