This is a really awesome game! Super cozy, all the art looks really good, the movement feels nice, and the platforms aren't as annoying as I thought they would be to place (if that makes sense). Controls were slightly confusing at first but good when you get the hang of it.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! I totally know what you mean about the platforms. We intended mid-air placement to be possible (and in fact is the only way you can place them), were worried it would be super annoying, and were pleased when it was actually pretty okay!

This is really cute. The art is amazing and the whole thing is quite polished. The damn birds wont stay off my pumbo! (ง •̀_•́)ง

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, the birds can be a real problem!

Submitted

I really enjoyed it! Even though I didn't think gardening could be so stressful.

Developer

Thank you! Haha, yeah, it can get a bit intense!

I love the look of this one. The controls seemed too finicky to be able to play-- I wasn't able to pick up the fertilizer for the life of me, and I kept not pulling up weeds even though I was right on top of them. This game has really great potential though and I'd love to try an improved version!

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

You can’t pick up the composter bucket, just interact with it when you have collected weeds. Then it will process the weeds and spit out the red fertilizer packets that can be picked up and applied to the pumpkin.

I think the other issue you might be having is that you can only interact with things (shoo pests, pull weeds, dump collected weeds into composter) while you are not holding an item, so try dropping the watering can first (Z or J) and then interacting (X or K).

Hope that helps! Please let me know if you’re still having trouble. The interaction targets are pretty large, so I’m hoping the issue was just the empty hand requirement.

This absolutely rules. I love the incremental-game-style upgrade progression and the active gameplay of maintaining my glorious pumbo and scaring off the birds. Also the art is lovely - the pumbo itself makes me think of PS1-era prerendered scaled sprites like in Tomba, Klonoa, and so on. Absolutely great!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

This is beautiful and so well polished!! Excellent job! What a fun game!

Developer

Thank you, so glad you had fun playing!

It was hard to pull myself away from this game.  Every round, I kept thinking "surely, the pumbo can't get much bigger...", and then it got bigger.  Fits the theme perfectly, and great art.  5/5/5

Developer(+1)

Yess, that's exactly the experience we were hoping to invoke! Thank you :)

Very fun and cute. Everything comes together really well. Amazing work.

Developer

Thank you, glad you enjoyed!

I love how you integrated 2D and 3D so seamlessly! The gameplay itself is great too, although it took a bit before I figured out how to get rid of weeds and birds since I had the watering can in my hands the whole time. Once I got that though, I had an absolute blast! Well done!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, we probably could have better communicated that non-item actions can only be done with an empty hand, but we ran out of time to do any tutorializing beyond the “how to play” screen.

the art is really charming and the gameplay loop feels great!  reminds me of flash games i used to play.  i love how platforms are a limited resource and you end up having to divide your time between watering, weeding, fertilizing, and shooing pests.  felt like there was always something to do

Developer

Thanks! That was the goal! We wanted to add enough mechanics that you need to be constantly moving, and glad to hear we accomplished that!

I enjoyed this thoroughly even if it's not my typical type of game. For w/e reason I couldn't use the platforms or pick up the other bucket (fertilizer?) I could only pick up the watering can and shoo things/dig out weeds. I tried both button options. I would've liked more distinct music and more sound fx for the birds, pumpkin growing, etc but what was in there was pleasant. Good idea for this jam.

Developer(+1)

Thanks!

Hmm, so the composter (the bucket you mentioned) can’t be picked up, only interacted with. When you pull up a weed it gets added to the resource tracked in the top right corner, and then interacting with a composter will process those and turn them into fertilizer items, which can then be picked up and activated on the pumpkin.

As for the platforms, you can only place them on the pumpkin, and only above ground level. When the pumpkin is bigger, try jumping and then pressing “C” (or “L”).

I just played again with those suggestions, everything works  as you said. I guess it wasn't clear that you needed to jump to be able to place the platforms. There's a lot more to appreciate on a replay, all the choices in the shop felt pretty impactful and the progression was fair. Only real gripe is there's a good period of just watering at the beginning and watering in general feels like you should be able to fill the meter, run around and do more interesting stuff, then come back.

Developer

Glad it all works now! Yeah, that’s a very reasonable gripe, and one we would like to address in the future. Once you get the watering upgrades it becomes easier to keep the meter topped up, but even then it is true that there is some downtime at the beginning before the first weed spawns. Things to hopefully improve in the future!

Submitted

This was great! Loved how the distance between platforms grows with the pumbo forcing you to always have to consider where to use that resource sparingly, fun take on the theme!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, the platforms being rooted to a spot on the pumpkin rather than in space is something we are quite proud of, it definitely makes platform placement more interesting.

Submitted

Wooow, amazing pixel art! The main character is really cool! Well-executed animations too! Awesome job—we really liked this entry. Also, great take on the theme!

Developer

Thanks so much!

I liked the way the platforms got further apart as the pumpking got bigger.  This was a good take on the theme. I don't think I understand watering even after playing for a while. Pumpkin art is cute.

Developer

Thanks! So, the pumpkin pulls water from all of the tiles under it, so you have to water as much of the ground under the pumpkin as you can.

Submitted

Ah, that does explain it. Didn't get that while I was playing, but it makes sense.

Submitted(+1)

I thought this was a lot of fun, loved watching the pumpkin grow. You really put all your various assets to great use and in a cohesive way, really impressed! Love the farmer and the animations. Overall everything felt really polished.

I wish the timer was a tad shorter, especially once I realized there was a shop for buying multiple upgrades! Would be cool if the first pumpkin was only sorta big, but then after some upgrades you start really seeing the gargantuan ones.

Well done!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words, and the feedback! Choosing a timer length that allowed you to try a few things but wasn’t too long initially was tricky, and I think there’s still some tweaking to do. We also weren’t sure how well-calibrated we were, so we didn’t want to shorten it too much for day one and have new players unable to make any money. It’s a tricky balance to strike, but we’ll keep your feedback in mind as we iterate!

Submitted

Beautiful game, finally I can grow the pumbo of my dreams ;-; those upgrades are gonna keep me coming back for more

Developer(+1)

Highly recommend maxing out the composter and water source, they are quite fun! Good luck with your future pumbo growing!

Submitted

The artstyle, music, animations and mechanics are amazing! This feels really well polished for 4 days!
Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much! There are definitely things we would have liked to add or tweak towards the end, but we’re pretty happy with the level of polish we were able to achieve.

Submitted

Love the art, it's very nice, strong 16bit vibes. Love the take on the theme and the idea. Very fun game, and pretty polished. Nicely done.

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, getting the pixel art to work with the fact that the game zooms out as the pumpkin grows was…challenging to say the least. Glad you liked the end result!

Submitted

The art is amazing! I fell in love with this game!

Developer

Thanks so much!
