Really polished for a game jam game. The platforming is pretty tight, the level design most of the time is fair and enjoyable. I've definitely played worse platformers that are full releases. Great work!
Definitely could've done with getting some music in there though!
Nice and simple platformer that transports me to when I was four years old and played Super Mario Land the first time on the Game Boy.
Felt the level design and enemy logic was reasonably challenging, and really appreciated the save-of-progress of leaving previous enemy spawners destroyed after the player dies (otherwise, it would've been too unforgiving; there are some points where the player is swarmed!). Also hadn't realized about the shoot function until some time in when I realized there must've been something in order to get past / destroy the spawners. But once I figured it all out, it was a fun playthrough trying to get to the top.
All-in-all, a very functional game with nice pixel art fitting within the theme of the jam. Good work, devs!
i didn't even know you could shoot until halfway through. in-game instructions are recommended. music is also highly recommended. pretty good otherwise. i had fun with it. good job on your first Godot Jam submission! consider trying my game!
Thanks for the feedback CookieJar!
We didn’t have enough time for adding anything more for sound - if we did we would have spent some time differentiating the enemy hurt/shoot sounds from the player hurt/shoot sounds.
You’re definitely right about the shooting mechanic - it wouldn’t have been very hard to add a little text at the start that explained the controls. I naively expected players to look at the keybinding menu and thus see that there was an option to shoot.
Oh, also by “1” jam experience in the description, it means one jam of past experience, so this wasn’t our first.
Cute enemies :) I got a little slowdown when I left too many of the blue flying enemies alive near the end. I liked the 'only shoot up' limitation, works for the climbing format. The level design and the pixel art were well done
Slick controls, cohesive art direction, and pristine level design. Well done!
Thanks very much! Those were exactly what we focused on, so it’s really nice to hear that our hard work paid off!
Also your game was super well made! Good job!
Really cute game, I loved all different enemies and how I had to adapt the way of fighting, their design is really cool !
Smooth gameplay and super cute! The platforming felt nice while still providing a good amount of challenge. And the warp points were a great addition.
Only being able to attack in an upwards direction helped to drive home the sense that verticality is always the goal — which played in perfectly with the theme.
this was a lot of fun! tight controls, solid platforming! there were some tough sections but it wasn't too bad since enemies didn't respawn. unfortunately the game froze when i got to the door at the top of the tower, but i still had a great time :)
Wow, what a stellar little game! The controls felt really great to me, and the level design is really excellent. I especially liked your approach to boss battles, they were challenging but not gruielling since your efforts were cumulative; perfect for a jam to give a real challenge while still allowing the player to progress and see all of what you made! Unfortunately I think my game crashed when i reached the door at the top, but I really loved my time here. Great work!!
I really enjoyed the jump animation and variety of enemies. It was fun to decide between jumping on them vs shooting above me. It was unclear how the checkpoint worked (if I even activated it) but I saw after playing the beginning portal helped with that. I would have enjoyed it more if there was more feedback for the checkpoints/how to navigate with them as well if there was some story elements as you climb to interact with. Maybe lost items from your relatives?
Some things I think would make the game even better:
This was very fun to play. Great work!
It took me a lot of time to discover I could shoot the enemies 😅
This game is very cute, especially for the art. Player movement wasn't that good for me, but maybe it's because I played the web build. Overall, nice entry!
i had a lot of fun with this platformer! combat and movement was pretty seamless, i like that you gave options on routing and combat in this game. well done! froggy supremacy 🐸
This was fun! Had a really nice to the movement and shooting. The checkpoints didn't seem to work for me, I kept getting them but still being teleported back to the bottom. I also would've loved some music in the game. But great work overall!
Hi Jonas, the checkpoints will activate the portal at the bottom which allows teleporting to the latest activated checkpoint. I really wish I had time to whip up background music in Ableton it would have been great.
Really cute and very fun game. The squichy animations add a lot to it. Great job :)
Great job on your game! I made it to the top, and unfortunately it crashed when I got to the door, but up until then it was really good. Tight controls and a good challenge progression. Well done!
Thanks! Luckily that is the end of the game, something is bugged with moving to the credits screen, but only on the export LOL. I'll try and see what I can do to fix.
UHHH, great platformer, I'm always impressed when I play a good platformer from a Jam.
Simple platformer, but I do appreciate having various paths to take to the top.
I also like the squishy animation that plays when froggy lands after jumping.
Ribbit.
super cute and bouncy platformer, it would be nice if you could aim whilst shooting but other than that movement felt nice and snappy and the difficulty was good too.
Good job!
Like the idea of reclaiming a bug-infested tower! The vertical progression felt great and so did the jump sound. Is it possible to move or target with the shooting?
