The player movement ist fantastic. I think the lasers got out of sync, because I took to long in some levels, but im not sure. Definitely not an easy game, but a great skillcurve. The mechanics are presented slowly one after the other. Good Job!
The lasers aren't fully synced. Each has its own start/end point and speed. Thus, they can end up traveling slightly unsynced. It's something I've heard a few times. Definitely tweaking it for the future.
Appreciate the feedback, Potatuetata! Got your game added to my list and will be playing it on stream tonight. Cheers!
your game made me sweat , add a chrono and i'm sure many people in the jam will start speedrunning it . there is also a good gamefeel when it comes to make the character jump . i'll take inspiration from your game to get better
It is on the to-do list! Plenty of new things planned for future rounds. Just didn't have time to do it all in this round.
Thanks for the kind words. Appreciate the feedback.
Very cool looking game! Loved levels 6 and 7 )
Minor criticism on my part - I don't like when in platformers, you must reach the highest point in your jump arc to reach the platform. Or traverse the largest possible pit. I like having a little bit of leeway )
Nevertheless, I will be looking for at how the game evolves in the next rounds ) It is a very good start !
Hey, that's some great feedback. I went a little overboard with making all the jumps max height/distance. Found where that distance was and just kept using. Can scale back. Great advice! Cheers!
I really enjoyed this game. The art style and music give the game such a great vibe. I like the ramp up in difficulty, the last few levels definitely get challenging. I really enjoyed that the gameplay was more focused on execution rather than puzzles since I'm bad at puzzles, but I guess that's just a personal preference kinda thing. Great job on this it is so cool!
Thanks for the feedback, Nick!
I'm right there with you on the platforming vs puzzles. Originally I had gone that direction, but puzzle design is HARD! Seems to be a personal preference. Some love the platforming. Some love the puzzles. So cool how many diverse games we have.
Cheers!
I made it to level 9. You really didn't pull any punches, man this game is HARD.
Great work with the lasers, the responsive controls, everything.
If I had to pick a direction I'd like to see the game go in I'd say there's room to add in more puzzle mechanics to the lasers, such as reflective or refractive elements in the level that you can interact with,I'd love that.
I love the idea of the puzzle mechanics. And yep, there are several in the works. Don't beat me to the punch! Gotta save some room for future rounds...
Cheers!
Okay, you can take your freakin lazers and just walk to round 3! This is such a rage inducing game but I can't stop playing it! Not sure if you are aware, on level 4 it was taking me so long to complete that the music stopped playing. You know like at a party when they turn the lights on saying hey get out of here already! haha
But really a really good game and looking forward to what you do next with this!!!
Mwahaha! Rage! Rage and chaos!
Appreciate the feedback on level 4. Yep. First time using FMOD and I had forgotten to hit the loop button. Already been fixed and pushed to the repo.
SWEET RAVE PARTY!
1. I'm loving the neon retro art (show me how you did it plzplz, especially how you got the colours around the edges. did you just paint the whole thing and import it as a single sprite?)
2. Straightforward and easy to play. levels were intuitive (nice design!)
3. The movement could be a little smoother especially if you're going for 'threading the needle' style puzzles which need accuracy, found that A/D especially was really tricky to get exactly into the right spot
Some great feedback, Mardoo. Thanks!
Ultimately I'm moving this more towards the controller, but note taken on the keyboard sensitivity. I think an overall sensitivity setting might be good anyways. Great advice.
As far as the neon retro part, I actually made a little demo video for the Discord group. Short version: it's a sample tilemap I made for a custom tool I build. And rather than complete do the art prior to a (possible) art round, I just used the demo one. Ended up fitting more than I expected. Video here:
Simple yet effectively fun platformer! Loved playing through it, and your level design was fantastic! That last level especially oh man, that one was tough
Glad you enjoyed it.
And no. That one wasn't the tough one... At least not yet. Mwahaha!
Really well made, great work
Thanks, Sijil! Appreciate you playing it.
Got your game added to my list. Will be playing it on stream tonight.
A neat neon platformer! I had a little trouble getting the timing right on some of the jumps (I fear I make a bad coyote) but had a good time with the game overall! I can't wait to see how you develop this further!
Thanks, Goat! I pushed some of the difficulty a little too far for a short game jam. Will make sure to dial that back a little. Appreciate your feedback!
This was incredibly addicting. it had the right amount of progressive difficulty. I really enjoyed it
That's the kind of feedback I was hoping for. Cheers, Garlock!
This is peak! I could learn so much from this.. You made your mechanics so well and it was very easy to pick up and play. It was fun and tricky, but not to overwhealming. Looking forward to your progress! :D
Maaaan, thanks for that. That's a pretty high compliment and I appreciate it.
Let's go! Nice job.
I ragequitted on the 4 level i think
But i liked it
love it brainfart! dont really know what the secondary mechanic is, but i love the smooth movement and the lasers!
Glad you like it.
Main mechanic is the platforming itself. Tried to get it as tight as I could. Second is the button mechanic. Can't progress past certain levels with out, and it requires the platforming to get to it.
Simple. Possibly too simply? I took a gamble. Appreciate the feedback!
The colors and particle effect was fun! The platforming too! Struggled with laser timings but that is a gamer skill issue lol.
Nice! Glad you liked it.
And nah, the difficulty curve is on me. Tried to keep a good logical progression. But ramped up the difficulty a little too much. Can fix!
I would say I lacked the reflexes and will get it in a few tries lol.
Oooh really tough but thrilling game! The mechanics work like a dream.
Not a big point, but I love the colors of the walls.
Wifefart's idea! She loves CMYK. Appreciate the kind words, Fedora. Cheers!
Cool platformer, lasers felt annoying in some levels but overall its good and engaging.
Completely fair. I learned just how hard good level design can be. Way harder than expected. Note to self: down the difficulty. Can do!
Cheers, Forsaken. Thanks for checking it out and the feedback.
Great platformer, love the mechanics and the art design. The game feels a little bit hard. The jump timing, the windows between laser beams, and the time you have after deactivating lasers all feel very tight. But overall, very good game.
Thanks for the good words. And completely fair. Always hard to know the right amount of difficulty for these short jams. I appreciate the feedback!
Great platformer! And epic music to accompany :)
Glad you liked it, James! And thanks for stopping by the stream. Was awesome getting to play Choppy Stick.
