its nice and engaging game. loved the mechanics.

Developer

Thanks a lot!  I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I've been playing this for the last 20 minutes!! Really fun puzzle game! I agree with what other people have said about the switching the dice location quality of life changes. Apart from that, love it! Would love to see how this game progresses if you choose to develop it further!

Developer

So happy you liked it!  I will definitely be continuing it and adding a lot to it, including easy dice switching.  Thanks a lot for playing and  making suggestions.

Quite enjoy waking up doing a bit of math! it's puzzly although I find a lot fo the time using + and - is just easiest (or even ptuting in the number themselves works! (i feel like should have to do a formula)

Developer

Thanks for play and thanks for the suggestion.  I would love to add difficulty levels going forward and implement your suggestions that way.

Really fun math puzzley game! The fact that this is your first game is crazy, great job! I like the mechanics of it in general and the upgrading between waves is really nice and adds more depth to the game. I kinda wish the special attacks refreshed after each round instead of being single use, cuz I found the game pretty tough with the death counter always coming for me. I ended up dying on wave 4 due to the death counter. It'd be nice if you could drag the dice back to any slot instead of the one the originally came from, I was trying to experiment and see what I could do with my dice and then it's kinda hard to drag them back to their spot and I didn't want to press R to put them all back. Great job on this tho it's really cool.

Developer

Thanks for the awesome review and for the great suggestions.  I'm excited to get back to work on it and implement those changes.

Just Wow. The gameplay is really fun and with some polishing it could really be an incredible game. Didn't had any major issue or issues at all tbh. Some quality of life like the ability to exchange 2 dices location without having to put one in another blank space.

Developer

Thanks so much!  This is my first game and everyone someone seems to like it makes me so happy.  Love the suggestion to exchange 2 dice - look for that in the next version!

This game had a bit of a learning curve but once I got the hang of it it was really fun! At times it was a little annoying to try and return specific dice to their starting spots, maybe consider letting the player right click a block to automatically return it to the set. Overall great game!

Developer

Thanks for sticking with it.  I think the biggest mistake I made was not getting an interactive tutorial in it.  Also, thanks for the great "right click" suggestion - I will definitely be adding that!

This game made me feel really stupid.... and then really clever.... and then really stupid again 😅. It was fun and engaging and I spent quite a bit of time on it. Unfortunatly my best run was cut short because i clicked the "PEDMAS" title, not realising it would send me back to the menu!

The mechanics were really well implemented and i dont think i found even a single minor bug in the whole time i played. I thought the attack & defence mechanic was really good and lead to a sort of risk v reward mechanic of choosing which to prioritize. Having the doom counter tick down in the background was a great idea to disentivice just sitting on the defensive!

The randomness was a little frustrating, however i think adding in the special dice/powerup mechanic helped counter that a lot. I felt like i coudl counter the RNG by strategically picking upgrades to enpower the player to try and mitigate it (I ended up picking a lot of extra maths dice cause the pesky '+' dice never seemed to want to show up!)

The graphics were simple but complimented the game well and didnt distract from the gameplay. I thought the little effect of the dice shaking when you rerolled was great and really added some nice weight to the action. I think more bits of polish like this would be really impactfull and help sell the solid core you have here.

Other than that you have already identified what would be great to tackle with this next in the settings menu :) I agree with most of them but actually think adding more functions (like brackets) would over complicate it. I think with some balancing and differnt enemy mechanics the core +=/* really provides enough, especially if you dial in the difficulty ramp!

Great entry, i really enjoyed my time with it and am impressed you managed to squeeze making a roguelike into 2 weeks! nice job!

(Ohhh and i guess the other problem is im team BODMAS all the way! down with PEDMAS!!! though i liked what you did with the acronym)

Developer(+1)

WOW!  Thank you for the amazing in-depth review - I loved it.  I'm so sorry about the accidental title click (I need to put a simple "Are you sure" message on that).  I would love to offer difficulty levels (e.g. with and without  parentheses).  And I will definitely enhance graphics and sounds.  Also really appreciate your thoughts on RNG and balancing with upgrades - getting that right is tricky.  Lastly, I'm in the U..S. and never heard of BOMDAS before (I had to google it); I didn't realize there was a different acronym out there.  I might be team BOMDAS too - it actually sounds more dangerous.

Wow, what a fun math puzzle game. Very well done. I think you got the core and secondary mechanics working together real well and they worked together to help defeat the enemy. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much!  This is my first jam (and first game) and I was really hoping people would like it.

Somehow turns math into a really fun and difficult strategy game! Found myself playing it for way longer than I thought I would.  The special abilities were fun and really spiced things up.

Developer

Thanks so much.  I'm so glad you enjoyed it and it sucked you in.

Submitted(+1)

I really suck at coming up with equations to generate a number which made the game quite tedious to play, but that was on the tin so can't dock points for that. The UI elements, which makes up most of the game, were rather generic and could use some sprucing up if it were to go into real development.

Developer

Thanks for giving it a try.  I totally get that it won't be for everyone.  Hopefully, post Jam we can enhance the look of the game.

i was scared there was gonna be integration in higher levels,
it was really fun

Developer

I'm so glad you enjoyed it.  I tried not to make it too hard.  I think, after the jam,  I will try and add difficulty levels.

Submitted(+1)

I had a lot of fun playing! It would be nice to see more complex math in higher levels

Developer

Thanks a lot.  And, I agree.  I want to add parentheses and exponents to the game.  It will definitely have more difficulty levels going forward.

Submitted(+1)

Very addictive. with some QoL updates, it could be a banger!

Developer

Thanks so much!  I agree.  This was my first game and I just ran out of time.  There is a lot I want to add to make it a better experience all around.

This is a pretty damn good entry. Though my brain would always shut off when quizes had these mathematical combinatorics games, I gave it a real try and was surprised at managing to match all the numbers. Well, all until wave 4 where I gave up as it is not my type of game, but pretty good work. One tip, I would recommend to put credits on the game page so people are aware where the graphics are from, some jammers may get annoyed whet that is missing.

Developer

Thanks for giving it a go up until level 4!  And, thanks for the suggestion too.

Submitted(+1)

Wow this was super duper fun! I ended up playing a lot longer than I intended to but I think you have a great couple mechanics working very well together here. The UI had a few bugs here and there but with some touch ups and polish (and added music) this would be absolutely perfect!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing - I'm so glad you liked it.  I have a laundry list of features I want to add - definitely squashing any bugs at the top of that list.  If you remember what any of them were specifically, I would love to hear.

Submitted(+1)

I'm not sure what triggered the bug, but there were a couple times the number dice weren't matching up with the layout of the UI (always happened at the start of a new round/enemy). I had a couple times where a number dice started in one of the attack slots, and one time where I thought I was missing a number dice entirely only to find out later that two of them were layered on top of each other.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for that detail.  I haven't seen any of that happen myself, but I will dig in, track it down, and squash it.

Submitted(+1)

Accidentally commented in the construct jam first lol. Anyway, missed games like these. Nice work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks.  I love a good math puzzle.

Submitted(+1)

This was sooo cool. I have visions of a blockbuster AAA title in your future with ideas like this.

Developer(+1)

You're very kind.  I don't have aspirations, or skills, for any big titles.  But, I am happy if I can create a quirky, fun, and original game that some people like.

Submitted(+1)

Cool game! At first I was a bit weary I'm not going to lie, but I had a lot of fun when I actually got into it! It really made me want to hold on to some of my numbers like my life depended on it lol. (2, my beloved) Anyways, good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the honest feedback.  I definitely need to create an interactive tutorial, so it's more fun to get into the game the first time.  But, I'm glad to hear that it was fun once you got into it.

Submitted(+1)

Nice math game! Makes me think of computer labs in school growing up and getting to play something like this.

Developer

Thanks a lot!  I'm a math nerd and wanted to create something that would be fun and logical.  I could totally picture playing this in school.

Submitted(+1)

i like this.. seems like a fun way for school kids to learn basic math skills..

Developer

Thanks!  I could definitely imagine math teachers digging it.  I definitely want to add some more to it (parentheses and exponents), so math geeks like me, can have some challenges with it too.
